Total Time = 2h 53m 53s
Overall Rank = 172/197
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 29/29
Pre-race routine:

wake up too early 3:30 am git my stuff ready just had 2 power bars and perform drink bottle
Event warmup:

earliest in parking close to transition. Set-up and went to the dock to relax and do stretching 20 mins before the start just ate gu. swim is at the dock area of boats worst swimming water salty with bitter taste and we can smell the fuel.
Swim
  • 49m 22s
  • 1500 meters
  • 03m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall i am comfortable about the whole swim segment. I just stop once to fix my goggles.
im last of my AG well i am really not a swimmer i just do what i can to get to dry land.
What would you do differently?:

eventually ill be comfortable with frontcrawl not in the near future though.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

better than before
What would you do differently?:

nothing much
Bike
  • 41m 59s
  • 23 kms
  • 32.87 km/hr
Comments:

The bike leg was cut short due to construction, so its reduced to 14.2 miles very disappointing , the bike leg is what i am counting on to catch up on my very poor swimming.
I was averaging 21 mph fir the first 9 miles and we hit this medium steep bridge and 1 steep bridge therefore averaged only 20 mph .I want to do this bike course again next year.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 2
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

ok no pains no nothing just that its 95 F now and the heat is not good.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 15m 55s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 35s  min/km
Comments:

The heat is too much but what probably slowed me down is fitness just splashed me some water every .5 miles otherwise i may end up walking the whole run leg. The over all course is good.
What would you do differently?:

i should have done bricks under the heat even short ones.
Post race
Warm down:

reached the finish line and got my bottle of water id rather splash it on me than drink it because of the heat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

me. I should have done more short bricks under the heat

Event comments:

i would rate this average because they change the bike course to sprint and not because of the weather its because of the construction which was 2 months ago could have been planned in advance.

Dude! Did you ask yourself why "Clear Lake" smells like fuel? Sounds like an omen for odd things to happen during the race, which did on the bike! Way to persevere and deal with the unexpected. You da man!

Well done Carlo, your stats aren't bad.  You had a great ride and the full distance would have worked to your advantage.  You had a decent run.  Your only limiter was your swim and you can get better at swimming with practice but even then you're only going to gain a matter of minutes.

I've been last in my age group more than once.  It's no big deal to me and you're in a much tougher age group.

Appreciate it bro , Oly is really your game, Swim Focus enough mileage on the bike and not too long on the run.

Great race Carlo! That heat is oppressive, no getting around it.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
