Subject: First open water swim session
I did my first open water swim session last night, struggled abit at first to get used to my breathing as its alot different to pool swimming, once i got going though it was great.

How often do you sight?

I also found i got cramps in my calfs towards the end, why is this i dont normally? I was wondering if its because the water was cold.

"How often do you sight"

Depends on:
*How straight you swim
*If you have something to guide you during your normal breathing cycle

Personally, I sight every 12 strokes (arbitrary, but that is 1 pool length for me).
In races, if I am in a pack, I can go 30-50 strokes without sighting, just going with the flow.

I sight about every ten strokes on average.  More often when I'm approaching a turn buoy to make sure I'm lined up where I want to be.
