(you can start by reading the 10k report for more background)

After I mopped up the 10k sweat, I decided I may as well just do the 5k even if I took is easy. That was always the plan, but whatever. I went back, pottied again, and lined up way in the back. Again, this is my Garmin time not the official race time.

This I just took easy and it was a bit less torturous. Walked a bunch, took water both times, high-fived a little girl. I saw a runner who was pretty much with me in both races and when I passed her said "Man, I am ready for this to be over!" and she rolled her eyes and agreed. It feels good to have a comrade.

I just put one foot in front of another and was doing okay until one last walk at the end, in front of the edge of the crowd. Geez. I managed to get myself together and run it in. I was SO hungry and felt like a new woman after trying all the finish line treats.

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
