Has anyone done the Kirkland Tri (TriFreaks)? I'm thinking of signing up for the sprint. Any advice?

Thanks!
Scott

At least the swim is flat...

Ok, seriously, this is a pretty well-run event. The ride is hilly. VERY hilly. There's one good downhill where you go onto a foot-bridge at the bottom -- big compression there. Then at the other end of that bridge, you have an off-camber left hander. Just be ready for it. The first part of the ride is kinda freaky in that they put you on the left side of the road -- at least it messes with my brain. the run course is very mild in comparison.

I don't know who came up with that bike course.  Oh wait, I had a big role in that.    It is definitely hilly but tons of fun and a good end-of-season race. Good luck!

That was you? I just about wiped out coming down that hill when the guy in front of me decided to sit up and slam on his brakes before going over that bridge. Now I know who to blame!! :-)

Except for the bike course, it's a fun race and I really enjoyed it.

I'm totally confused as to what bridge you are talking about....

I've done the course twice and ride and run all of it frequently and can't for the life of me think of the bridge.

The only "bad" sections I can think of are the sharp right-hand turn off the steep downhill at the "top" of the course and the right-hand turn heading back into Juanita which has some nasty pavement in the apex. Otherwise Juanita is a blast to power-climb and the descent is awesome.

Actually, this is a completely different course than the one I raced, so my input seems to be irrelevant. Used to be a one-lap course, went way farther up the hill towards the highway. It would seem they've taken out the footbridge section.

This will be the third year on the course (that I worked on) that goes up Juanita and is 2 loops.  There is not a bridge any more--I know that one and it was one factor in redoing the course.  The other was trying to utilize Juanita Beach Park after it was upgraded.  The main downside is the unpredictability of the lake depth at this time of year, but I think they have it pretty much figured out now.

Much warmer than last year!

Fun race all around. Always a little scary when 300w only gets you 22.5mph.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
