Subject: Glossary for Beginner 1/2 Ironman 20 weeks
Hello everyone,

I chose this program (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/training-plans-view.asp?planid=16&memberlevel=1#) for myself and I run into some problem, well I don't know what all of this acronyms means.

On day 1:
Run, very easy 40 min (RPE 3) - I understand that

Swim:
1. question: For WU (warm-up)200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull, 200 swim, what does all that means?
200 is for yards or what?
Kick = just swimming with my legs?
Pull = just swimming with my arms?
For 200 yards each?

2. question is for CD (cool-down)
4x50 (again yards or meters?)

Yes, WU is warm up. 200 kick can either be with a kick board or find or both. 200 pull is with a pull buoy between your legs to elevate (float) your hips. You'll just use your arms. 200 swim can either be freestyle, or another stroke like breast or back. Something you might use in a testing stroke to catch your breath for a minute.

CD is for cool down & the distance is whatever your pool is. 25 meter, 25 yard, 50 meter, or 50 yard.

So let's say your in a 25 mtr / yd pool. You would swim down & back once . 10-20 sec. Rest. Then again. Until you hit 4 reps.

You might want to check out this thread.  Lots of info about people's experience with the plan.  There hasn't been much activity recently as it seems like the first of the year is when groups of folks start in.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.
