Subject: After Ultra question
Before I ask my question I'm not sure if what I did Friday night counts as an ultra. My cross country team and I did a 12 hour Run a Thon on our school's dirt track. It was a total blast and I ended up outrunning everyone with a total of 35 miles. I took two breaks but other than that I was running. We did the run from 8pm Friday to 8am Saturday. Here it is Sunday morning and my left big toe is still numb. Is this something that happens? It doesn't hurt necessarily but just kind of bothers me. Never been an issue before in marathons or HIM races I've done.

Wow, that is quite an accomplishment.  From what I understand as a general rule 50k is the distance one must travel in a 12 hour run to consider it an ultra and you have far surpassed that.

It's hard to say what is normal in terms of newly experienced aches and pains.  It is really hard on your body to be moving for that amount of distance/time and invariably you are going to feel things you never have before.  It took me a good week before the major aches and pains settled down.  I swear I was sore all the way through to my bone marrow.

Chances are it'll turn purple and fall off, if it is bothering you then take a needle and poke a hole in the middle of the toe nail to relieve the pressure. I know this sounds painful but it really is not. Great job on the run.
