Usually this time of year I have a good plan of some races Half Ironman I want to run next year but this year None seem to be popping out to me.
I try to race 4 or 5 HIMs a year and am looking for some races that would be fun to do. The trick is finding a good early season race somewhere warm then you can race every 6 to 8 weeks.

I am looking for any ideas of races that will be fun to add to my schedule. I live in the Chicagoland area

here is where I have raced in the past. I enjoy the fun of a new course

I just did Michigan Titanium in Grand Rapids two weeks ago. It wouldn't be too far for you, and I thought it was well-run.

There is a new 70.3 this year in Alton, IL (outside St. Louis) in October. I'm doing it. I'll be able to tell you a month from now if it is worth it, but everything I've seen thus far indicates it will be a good one. May be a good one to look at to end your season. It's called Border Wars Triathlon.

In looking at your list, the obvious one missing to me as an early season tri would be TX HIM in April. It would have travel associated with it.

I'd give a strong recommendation for the Vineman 70.3 in Sonoma CA. It is a well run race on an incredibly beautiful and challenging course. I've done both the half and full there and will likely do one or both again.

Door County Wisconsin gets rave reviews. Better sign up early though. It is popular enough to fill up early.

actually distance is not a object I have traveled to PR for a early season race. I will keep the border war race on my radar looks good. Door County Wisconsin looks good also

Savageman. Ok, I haven't done the HIM, but I loved the Oly. It is a gorgeous, challenging course, and the fan support is great. From what I understand, they get even crazier for the HIM (which is the day after the Oly). I have decided that at some point in their life, everyone should be chased up a hill on their bike by a screaming, drunken, benevolent goofball in a costume. It is this weekend, and I can't wait to do it again.

Non-branded but in my neck of the woods there are two HIM's now that use part of the same course - I've done the early one in Welland which is flat and fast! Nice swag and really approachable race organization.

They are launching the Barrelman this year where the swim is the same as Welland but the bike and run take you to Niagara Falls.  They also have a hockey jersey as a race shirt - may have to buy that though ...  should be good though!

As I have reflected over the Tri season this year, I thought about some of the people that I don’t think I will ever forget.
