Subject: Don't go Changin'?????
Okay, so I've been racing for quite a few years and always wear the same thing to swim, bike, and run in. I wore a one-piece for all of my races up to this point in training for my IM. However, as I am thinking about the amount of time I will be out there racing (minimum of 12 hours and hopefully maximum of 14:30) I was wondering if many of you veteran IM athletes change clothes in transition in order to avoid more chafing or discomfort
as you move from discipline to discipline?? Just curious if I should even consider this (mainly because my running group members brought it up and said they'd like to wear some running shorts and singlet during the marathon). I hadn't even thought about this until now!

Thanks.

It depends on the weather for the day. Put things in your transition bags 'just in case.'

You'll also get more specific answers if you tell what race you're doing. At one race very few people might change, such as ones in warmer areas, others such as IM Lake Tahoe 99.5% of the field fully changed in T1 since it was 29 degrees.

I figure that I'm going to be out there, especially on the bike, for a long time. So, I might as well be comfortable. For my two IMs, I've done a full change for both the bike and the run. I have a favorite pair of bibs I wear on the bike, and change to a different pair shorts for the run. Also, don't discount the need to change socks after the bike. I've enjoyed having a fresh pair of socks to change into after the bike.

I go barefoot on the bike. Have done 3 5-hour rides like that with zero issues, so thinking it will be ok. Hope so! Hate socks in my tri bike shoes...
I am thinking of changing between swim and bike and staying from bike to run. Maybe I should toss in clothes for a change in T2 just in case. Thanks!

Tri shorts and top, start-to-finish.  All distances.

The few minutes it takes to change is worth it. You'll get those minutes back and your cycling and running will be more enjoyable.

That does beg some reflection - what to wear in the swim if you plan to put on bib's at T1 and choices may differ if its a wetsuit swim or a non-wetsuit.

Because I'm not that fast going slow is, well, really slow - especially when I'm trying to train by heart rate. It feels like I'm going backwards. Is this normal?

The cause of the sleeplessness could be anxiety to get out and compete but more often than not the inability to sleep is a fear of what might happen, of what might go bump out on the race course.

I got a new pair of the same size / brand of shoes and started running on them. On my left foot, the toe next to the big toe starts to get a little painful and goes numb after the first 1-3 miles.
