Subject: Zooma Florida Half Marathon

It's a women's race - and I am poking around looking for half marathons early next year - no later than May that might a fun sort of 'destination' race.  Giving me a reason to 1. Go away with girlfriends and 2. Keep my running motivation up through winter.  I found the Zooma Half online and am wondering if any of the FL peeps have input on:

1. The race itself - is it worth making the trip from Canada?

2.  Is the area a good place to visit for a long weekend away - i know nothing of the area (I've only ever been to Disney)?

It appears to be small - i've read a few race reports from random blogs and I am of course looking at other options but this one piqued my interest.

What say you FL BTers?

I would suggest if you really want to escape the cold (IMO Amelia Island in January is too cold) and are looking for a really good half marathon and fun vacation that you come to Key West instead. It is on January 18th and voted one of he top 10 destination half marathons. It is well organized and a lot of fun, as is Key West of course. You can find out about registering at: http://www.keywesthalfmarathon.com/

Just google the race and you can find write ups on it.

Going for broke in a race, as a pro or an amateur, can mean failure or exhilaration -- or both.

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.

At one of my last swim sessions the week of my first Ironman, one of my training partners told me how she was envious..."your first Ironman is fun, you have no pressure and no expectations!"
