Sunny
Total Time = 2h 12m 13s
Overall Rank = 40/88
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/6
Event warmup:

jogs back and forth between transition and swim beach "shelters", a short ride out and back on the last mile of the bike course to run through the gears and a short swim out to the first buoy and back
Swim
  • 24m 37s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

After the first 75 yds or so, i could not get a full breath, just couldn't get enough air in. Didn't panic and knew I could eventually work through it all but I did a little of everything, somehow I still had some people from my wave around me.....
What would you do differently?:

swim more, not be 15 to 20 lbs over the weight I last wore the wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Well, T1 did not include the slow walk I took from the beach to transition - guess that added onto the swim time - as bad as the swim went, it must have been short. I just took my time in this transition, made a cup of coffee, had some biscuits, and just lounged around. Definitely was not a race pace transition. (35 out of 93)
What would you do differently?:

Care
Bike
  • 1h 00m 38s
  • 11 miles
  • 10.89 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Wasn't much to this transition, but took a little bit long considering (42nd
What would you do differently?:

gloves and camelback coming off and fuel belt on were additions to "normal" transition Have to work on that being smoother. Have more energy coming in.
Run
  • 43m 17s
  • 4 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Got going out of transition (using the term loosely) and just couldn't run a pace, was doing 9:30's and then picking it up a little on the down hill, Hit the first mile in 9:13 but just didn't have it. Walked aid stations, then hills, then just interspersed walking. HR was close to what zone 5 use to be but breathing was low. I just didn't care, wanted to just keep moving forward.
What would you do differently?:

train, IDK maybe push myself a little more
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

14 hours of home improvement on Saturday, too little sleep and lack of training.

Way to hang in there and git 'er done.  Hope you enjoyed yourself despite not doing as well as you would have liked.  How'd those biscuits turn out?

Late to the party here but nice race all things considered, right?  You can definitely take some time off by next year!

The XTERRA off-road triathlons consist of a lake swim, a mountain bike trail ride, and a trail run. I decided to try the AZ Xtreme Desert XTERRA Tri as my 1st off-road triathlon, and my 3rd tri ever.
