Subject: Problem changing rear tire
The last two times I have put on an old tire on my rear wheel to use the trainer I end up with a bump or buldge where the valve is. Initially I thought it might be the tire but the first time I put a new tube in problem solved. Then last night same thing again. I've changed tires dozens of times no issue. Just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I can see the wheel on the trainer bounce when that part of the tire hits.Any suggestions , thoughts , ideas?

Get a trainer tire and you won't have issues and it will last for years.

The valve might be hung up and not seating properly.  When I start inflating the tube, I check for any bulge in the sidewall next to the valve and that the bead of the tire is seating down in the rim.  If not, I let a little air back out and make sure I have the valve pulled all the way down.

You have to make sure the valve stem is seated inside the rim and not being caught between the tire beads.  I've had an issue like this in the past on my narrow rims with my dedicated trainer tire (never with GP4000s).  If you are putting a bit of air in the tube when mounting try releasing as much of the air first once the tire is all on the rim.  Then with the pump on stem, lightly pull the stem so the valve stem seat is against the rim then try putting some air in the tube with a few pumps.

Thanks , I think you and Popsracer are onto something. I'll try deflating and playing around with the stem. And Kathy, I think I need a trainer wheel also! I didn't mind switching tires last few years but this stole the wind from my sails

This is my advice too. One of my rims is particularly bad for this, so when I put the tube in, I have to push up on the valve toward the tire and then push it back down into the rim to get it to seat properly.
