Doing my first half at princeton on Sunday. Did training program from Matt Fitzgerald book. Did an Oly 4 weeks ago, got a 7 minute pr on the run. Last 2 weeks feel horrible. My cranky knees which did wonderfully all year are not irritated and to top it off, I pulled something in my lower back lifting the laundry basket. Is the anxiety I'm feeling normal for a first half? Any recommendations on how to get through the race with a sore back?

It could be post race injury freakout as my friends all get (Some thing all of sudden hurts the week or 2 before the race that ends up not being a bad thing). My guess is once you get going it will go away. Enjoy the day it will fun a lot and also hard a lot. Suck energy off the happy people stay away from the negative people

I haven't done a race that long, but maybe I can share some advice from a Q&A session with an elite runner at my LRS. She was talking about taper madness before marathons, and said that everything would start hurting. She would get nagging pains that she never experienced at the peak of training. She figured it was her body's way of saying "let's go, I need to move!" She had learned that when she felt that way, it meant she was tapering properly. Maybe you are just experiencing something similar.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
