Ok naive as I am. .... Just asking before I open this can of worms. ..... is it silly to think that cycling in trainers is a good option in sprint as then u can just ditch the bike and get running? ???

Yes.
I add about 1-1.5mph with cycling shoes.

If you're comfortable wearing cycling shoes, do it.  The time you spend switching shoes will be easily made up by how much faster you'll go on the bike.

If you leave your shoes clipped into the bike while you get off (unstrap and put your foot on top as you are getting close to the dismount line) it will only take you a few seconds to put on your running shoes assuming you don't have to tie them. Please practice this first :D
