Well, if you do not swim for 6 weeks and can hardly move your shoulder above 90 degrees you cannot really expect to swim fast! Went for a short swim Wednesday to try it out and was in pain the entire time so I expected nothing and just wanted to make sure not to get kicked in the shoulder. Luckily we were only two in the lane and I was faster so nobody nearby to kick me but also nobody to draft.
First 100m in 1:53 and then it went downhill from there of course. My arms kept asking me what the hell we are doing....
Note to self: You gotta swim more!!

My Powermeter is finally working again :) Halleluja!
But this was not the best bike and I could feel I am still only at 75-80% and I kept wondering if it was too early for me to compete.
It was pouring down when we started biking and the course had 4 laps and each lap had 4 traffic circles and one 90 degree turn with a huge pothole. I biked so easy and slow around those traffic circles as I was sooo scared of falling (good that I did as two from our club fell on the bike and one of them had to stop as it was that bad). Conditions were not good for this course.
So I took it with an average effort and was surprised to see an 200Watts average...but of course it was also only 10K.

I was really fast. Off the bike, racked the bike, helmet off and in my shoes.

Comments:

I started running and of course could not feel my toes as they were wet and cold. The run course is the same as the bike course just one lap and it starts with a nasty little uphill. My HR was crazy once up on the hill but after that I settled into a good rhythm.
I was 4th starting the run but got overtaken by the 5th one about 1km into and the 6th one 2km in the run. I ran all I could and that was it for today. I could not have gone faster! Garmin was messed up as I forgot to turn the satellite on before (had it on inside use) so I had to briefly turn it off and on again to find a satellite. So I ran mostly by feel...Still kept wondering what I was doing there and if this was a good idea.
Post race
Warm down:

All in all this was an OK race and a decent time for not training much the last 2 months and for everything I went through in the last 4 weeks.
I did not have that much fun mostly due to the lousy weather and swimming in the pool but I knew I needed to try this one before the competition in Germany next week.
Was so absolutely exhausted after we came home that I slept like a stone on the couch for 2 hours! Was sooooo glad that this race was on a Saturday so we had the whole Sunday to relax before starting to work again on Monday....the good life and 8 weeks of "vacation/sick leave" is over!

We have new 10 and 20 week training plans for the New Year! These mini sprint plans are very conservative and will get any person thinking of training for a triathlon ready to cross the finish-line.

We will take a peek into the lowly saddlebag to see what needs to be in there in case of emergency. Much of this may be common sense, some might surprise you, and some are simply just my opinion.

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.
