105 | Subject: 50k two weeks after first 26.2 I just completed my first marathon yesterday. The Top of Utah. Good race, finished in just over 3:40. Other than my quads I feel pretty good. I will ease back into it tomorrow with some easy spinning to start my recovery. I followed the Higdon intermediate 1 plan and was happy with how it prepared me. Here's the deal. I already signed up for the north face utah 50k trail run in two weeks I'm going into this race with a different mindset. The 50k is going to be all about enjoying the experience. No real pace goals, no time goals. Just run the mountain. Only two weeks between races. Physiologically I am not going to gain any more fitness training for two weeks after a marathon. I just want to go into the 50k fresh, without losing any spring in my step so to speak. My idea is just to repeat the last two weeks of my marathon plan, just substituting an ez spin tomorrow instead of a 4 mile run. Here is my current plan. Tear it apart, what would you change? Mon:40min ez spin Tue. R 5 miles ez Wed. R 4 miles ez Thu. Spin 40min ez, swim 2k Fri . R 3 miles, 2 at marathon pace Sat. R 8 miles ez, focus on negative splits, finish 1 min slower than marathon pace. Sun rest Mon. 3 mile run Tue. 4 mile run We'd. Rest Thu. Rest Fri. 2 miles with strides Sat. 50k endurance challenge! Let me know what you think. My training logs are up to date if you want a peek. |

105 | Subject: RE: 50k two weeks after first 26.2 I think i found my answer. Another runner in my office pointed me to higdon's recovery plans. It looks reasonable to me so new plan, modified Higdon moderate recovery. 0 week: Rest, rest, rest, 3 mi, cross, 3 mi, 1 hour ez run, rest 1 week: 3mi, 3x mile mar pace, rest, rest, 2 mi with strides, 50k No training for me for the next two days |

Expert 1083 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: 50k two weeks after first 26.2 That's exactly how I did my first ultra. 26.2 one week, 50K 2 weeks later. No need to do much in between. Recover and pack your bags. Enjoy race #2 |

105 | Subject: RE: 50k two weeks after first 26.2 Thanks, I think i am really going to enjoy this race, I have just a different mindset and vibe about it. No pressure, no nerves, just chill, and i know it will be hard, but I also just know it's gonna feel great. I think I did just right last week, totalled 16 mi running and 40min spinning. I feel fresh and strong right now. Actually spent some time with a foam roller and stretching for the first time. There might be something to that roller thing. I ran a 3mi pace run today and felt great. Short ez run tomorrow, shorter run with strides on Fri. I might swim 2k Wed, but if I do it will be almost all with a pull buoy at an ez pace, and if i don't swim that'll be fine too (once again, I just feel chill about this race) I wish I had felt this good going into marathon week. Makes me wonder how much was training fatigue, and how much was mental? |

105 | Subject: RE: 50k two weeks after first 26.2 It was hard..... I should have posted a race report, but I've been kind of lazy lately. In a nutshell, I had a great race going through mile 16, but started to get queasy around then, and I just didn't feel strong the rest of the way. Lots of factors, I finished way slower than I hoped, but I finished. I've got a couple race reports I'll get up this week with the gory details |

needless to say- having it so close to a hard run 26.2... uh... didn't make it any easier. |

needless to say- having it so close to a hard run 26.2... uh... didn't make it any easier. What?!?! Inconceivable, I should have been totally recovered Nope, I'm sure that marathon was a major factor. If I can somehow swing the same two races next fall I'm sure I'll do the same thing. Except of course I'll try and cut 30 minutes off my marathon to BQ before tackling the 50K |
