Subject: RE: sweat and water... my shoes smell Originally posted by Hot Runner Sometimes I put some baby powder in them in that situation ( or just getting them routinely damp with sweat and rain here in the tropics). Baking soda might also work, but it's hard to find here. Have to admit that a few times I've ended up trashing shoes that got left too long in the bag after a race. (Came home late, too tired to unpack, forgot about them for a few days.....Yuck!) Haha, I've been guilty of this so many times that you'd swear I should have learned my lesson by now. After doing an international race, I left my bike, race clothes, and pee pee shoes that had been only rinsed quickly in the basement of some people that I met along the way while I traveled around the country for a while. 3 weeks later, I swear there was an ecosystem developing inside that plastic bag... To the OP, I'm a chronic sufferer of stanky shoes. I actually keep a big jug of vinegar specifically for the stench, and recently I tried water cut with some bleach, but I try to avoid harsh chemicals where I can, so while it worked I'd probably stick with the vinegar. Or maybe you could mix it with the baking soda like other people suggested and make a really lame shoe volcano for your kid's next science fair project |
