I want to hear about this. A buddy of mine hit a 53 minute swim!  Did everyone have a great swim? And if so, were you surprised by your time?

The swim was in the Tennessee River, I am guessing with the current, had a lot to do with it. Noticed a few good numbers.

39 minute swims in there.  Definitely a current - it would be like running on an airport conveyor belt walkway.

Yes, I saw the first few guys come out of the water and at first thought the timer must have been off. It was definitely a fast swim. Lots of current, not much sighting to do... kind of like a longer Augusta.

Yeah I had no idea the swim would be like that! I would love to brag on a 39 minute IM swim!

I think the current helped the 1:2x swimmers get to about 1 hour...roughly 15-20 minutes.  Based on the times of several people I knew in the race (they hit between 47 min to 1:04), the 15-20 minutes seems about right.

I did it. There was some current. Helped me about 12 minutes. I swam 54 and usually swim about 1:06. Real nice swim. The bike was 116 though, so it was about a wash.

it was crazy the speed gained. I would normally be a 57' or so IM swimmer. I was 48' on this one which was good for 17th in my AG and 159 overall. Think about that, 158 people swam better than a 48' IM swim.

So tell me why I want to bother swimming the other strokes? I'm IM training, and plan to swim freestyle for the entire race, is there an advantage to working on the other strokes?

Byrn won’t hold your hand through the long hours and miles required finishing or for success in an IM, he can only show you how to get there. The work is up to you.
