Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 and ate 3 blueberry waffles and a banana along with some milk.
Event warmup:

jogged about 1/4 mile and swam for just a couple of minutes. wasn't too concerned about anything because this was my first oly and i was there to enjoy everything
Swim

  • 01m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

I noticed that a lot of Olympic distance swimmers do not site very often! I got ran into a ton of times. At least with my normal sprinters, they can swim in a straight line. I really enjoyed myself on the swim and didn't push it. But there's no way I swam 1:30/hundred. That course was way off, and it wasn't even 1500m. I was pretty disappointed in that.

Transition 1
  • 03m 1s
Comments:

I made sure to have my bike shifted into the easiest gear before the race, so that made getting up to speed a bit easier.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 29s
  • 22 miles
  • 20.47 mile/hr
Comments:

I cornered awesome and did really well I thought. I tried not to push it so I didn't kill my legs on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Had a little trouble racking the bike, I guess I was just a little clumsy. Because of that, I sat down to put socks and shoes on.
Run
  • 50m 26s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 02s  min/km
Comments:

I went out at just the right speed. But my quads were really not liking that around mile 4. I stayed focused on the run and not letting my legs seize up. I was very pleased afterwards with my time.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Leg cramps

Event comments:

Playtri needs to get their distances in check.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I signed up for a Sprint in July, an Olympic distance in September, and the Alcatraz tri in October. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it all the way.

Keep in mind that the taper period is as important to your body as all of the long hours you’ve put in the pool, on the bike and on the road. It is meant to help you rest, recover and rejuvenate.
