Subject: Felt s32 or cervelo p2 as your first tri bike?
I've been doing tri's for about three years and have decided to purchase my first TT/tri bike. I am training for IMLP '15.

I have really been looking at the felt S32 and the Cervelo as my first tri bike.

I noticed the S32 has 11-speed and microshifters. The Cervelo has the option of getting the 11speed but for significantly more money.

Does anyone have any particular views on each bike? I would prefer not to break the bank on my first tri bike, but, I will be putting on a lot of miles on the bike and want it to be a good one.

I also want to have some money left to upgrade the wheelset, it need be....

Which to choose?

Thanks!

I believe the s32 is still aluminum and the p2 is not, right? That's a big difference there to begin with if so.

Also, check out bikes here to potentially get more bike for your money: www.mybikeshop.com

Plenty of great bikes at prices that are very good.

I did imlp in 2013. Great race and venue. Good luck! Message me if you want to discuss or email direct at www.mybikeshop.com

Thx!

The easiest answer is whichever bike fits you best - given the $ you'll spend on a tri bike, the cost of a fitting is fairly negligible, and you'll perform better on a bike that fits you properly.

If they both qualify in the fit department, as mentioned, the felt is aluminum vs the carbon P2. I think the felt is only available with a 105 group, whereas cervelo is selling their older model P2 with either 105 or ultegra for the same price.

The used market is going to maximize your bang for the buck though. Still worth a fitting so you know what to look for.

Regarding the P2, in 2014 this bike came with a 10-speed Shimano 105 drive train. In 2015 they are moving up to 11-speed Shimano 105. My friend that owns a bike shop was discussing the differences with me, and for a triathlete the 11-speed is advantageous because you get more gear options in the middle of the spectrum. This will allow for more efficiency on the bike so you can maintain a more constant level of effort without having to shift as often. The frames for the 2014 and 2015 models are identical.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

Does a degree or two difference between two frames(head and/or seat tube) really make that much of a difference when it comes to fit?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
