Total Time = 1h 12m 29s
Overall Rank = 35/242

Age Group Rank = 7/31
Pre-race routine:

Got up and had some coffee and oatmeal. loaded my gear and was out the door. stopped off for some gatorade and a banana. got to the race site, checked in , and set up my transition. one final evacuation and a short warm-up swim later, it was go time
Event warmup:

50 meter easy swim and some light stretching

  • 400 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

long run out to the parking lot. had to brush some rocks off my feet before slipping on my bike shoes. have to start off slow due to speed bumps in the parking lot
Bike
  • 37m 47s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.06 mile/hr
Comments:

had a good ride for me and based on how much I have been riding. always like to be faster, but no mechanical issues or flats today. I did have to come to an almost complete stop (and unclip) when some yahoo decided to half listen to the cop working the race. he pulled in front of me and then stopped, blocking the course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

should have been faster, but okay
Run
  • 24m 2s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 49s  min/km
Comments:

started off sore, but i saw a guy in my AG leave right before me. loosened up and increased my stride after the first mile and settled into a good pace. no one passed me and I tracked down a few people on the way.
What would you do differently?:

more brick training
Post race
Warm down:

saw that I was way outside the podium (you never know with these smaller races), so I grabbed my gear and headed home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the amount of training I have been doing.

Event comments:

pretty good for a small race. lots of post race activities (which I didn't stay around for). maybe next year

Nice work!!  7/31 in 40-44 is a great performance.  I would have probably gone off on the yahoo on the bike course - it drives me crazy to have a full head of steam and have to lay on the brakes.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
