Overall Rank = 87/2760

Age Group Rank = 7/218
Pre-race routine:

Goal for this race was to run a very even split based on effort (Not Pace) and secure a qualifying time for Boston 2016.
Run
  • 00m
  • 26.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Started out running by HR and RPE to manage pace and settled into something right around a 7:30 Mile with my HR right at 80%. (150 BPM)

I passed the 3:15 pace group at mile 1 and never saw them again.

At about mile 4 my Garmin reset itself (User Error) and at about the half way point, my HR values started get very wacky. After a minute or two of futzing with the strap I shut off the Garmin and just ran on perceived effort.

Finished the race with VERY even splits and averaged 7:30 all day. It got hard in the last 6 miles letting a few people pass me but today was not about competing. The last thing I wanted to do was let someone draw me out and then blow up and screw up my BQ.
Post race
Warm down:

I have 4 more marathons left in the season and now that I have my Boston Qualifier - 5, I can focus on competition and time goals.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. This was my 6th top 10 finish in the last 12 months and I am one of the older guys in my age group. Just keep running and getting faster.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.
