Hey locals, I will be in Phoenix for a day or two on business. The hotel (Westin downtown) has a tiny pool. Are there pools nearby? I did some searches and it looks there are some LA Fitness locations but they aren't super close. Am I missing anything? Thanks!

Not very familiar with the pools down there, but a quick search of the master's swim website showed a Downtown YMCA:
350 N. First Ave., Phoenix, AZ, 85003

Looks fairly close - worth a shot giving them a call.

If you are looking for a great restaurant - the Arrogant Butcher is a few blocks south of the Westin!

Enjoy your trip to PHX, the weather is finally nice here - hooray!

Hey awesome! Thanks! I didn't know about the Masters website. I'll check out the Y.

Yep, it's only a short walk to the Y from the Westin.

The pool in the Y is like swimming in a brick dungeon, but it gets the job done.

I am pretty sure there is a rooftop pool on top of the ASU Downtown Fitness Center (which is connected to the Y) but I don't know if that's just a social pool or if it's open for lap swimming.

EDITED TO ADD: it looks like the rooftop pool has 2 lanes open for lap swimming.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

When I swim I struggle to get a full breath and consequently run down faster. I spend part of my training on the side of the pool gasping for air.

Most of us belong to groups and there will always be pressure to keep up. It may be underlying or it may be outright, but no doubt, that pressure to go faster is always there.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.

Once you caught your breath, it occurred to you that finishing even a short triathlon might be harder than you thought. After a few "laps" you thought, "I can't believe I'm so out of shape."

Good swimming is relaxed swimming. Relaxed swimming depends on practicing the best techniques and the best body position.
