Well, I'm back swimming inside at the pool and back with my nose problem. Whenever I swim at a pool, I'm plagued with sneezing bouts and a runny nose off and on during the week. Sometimes it happens at night and keeps me awake for extended periods. Is there a solution for this?

I use a nose clip to prevent nose problems.

I thought of that but I breath out a lot through my nose. If the problem becomes really annoying, I may try that.

I thought the same as what you did. How on earth can I breath though my mouth and not swallow a lot of water.

After 10 minutes of practice I was fully adapted to this new way of breathing.
Go give it a try. Nose clips are cheap.

I'm sensitive to chlorine and have issues with this as well. I tried the nose clip but I exhale out of my nose when I do flip turns, and it would have taken forever to train myself not to do that with the nose clip. It was also very uncomfortable. I started doing a saline rinse post-swim. It helps! I have a neti pot and another nasal irrigation system.

Can you describe this saline rinse?

Sucky. This happens to me too, but luckily it only lasts for a few hours after I swim.

Saline rinse is just warm water that you pour into your nose. There are little packets that you mix with the water that turn in into saline. It helped me tremdously with my nasal problems.

OP, I am assuming you don't have this problem in the open water?

Right. It only happens after the cold weather chases me inside to the pool.

I doesn't sounds like a technique problem as the title of the thread would suggest. If the OP was just having trouble with water in the nose it should affect them both in the open water and in the pool. It probably has more to do with the chemicals in the water than anything else?

OP, do you ever get past it after a few weeks in the pool, in years past?

Is there another pool in the area that you could try that might use different chemicals/salt water?

It has happened in past years but not nearly as bad. I was actually thinking about checking out another pool to see if it makes a difference. I'm going to try nose clips and saline wash first as I'd have to drive to the next town to get to another pool.

Had a simillar problem and a tip I received on these boards was to coat the inside of your nose with Vaseline. Thought it sounded gross, but gave it a try and it works like a charm. Simple and easy.
