Cyclops skewer OK to use on the road?
OR
Should I switch it out with the bike's actual skewer when I head out.

Don't have a trainer wheel/tire.
Just the one that's always on the bike.

Perfectly fine to use outside - I use it most of the year only bothering to change it out for race day

You can definitely use it on the road. Just keep in mind that it's a steel skewer so if gets wet, it'll rust

Glad to hear! I've just been swapping, this will make life much easier barring any rain!

yeah, and this way, if you go slow one day, you can blame it on the increased weight of your rear skewer.

So am I doing it wrong? I just leave the bike's regular skewer in place all the time. Granted, my used trainer didn't come with a skewer, so it's not like I have much choice.

Maybe, if you have an aluminum skewer, it'll get chewed up pretty quick… If it's a steel skewer, then you'll be fine (although there's always the chance that the profile of the quick release head doesn't fit well in the trainer cup)

a cheap skewer for your trainer is at most $10 at any LBS

the one that came with your wheels will get messed up pretty quick. I just leave the cheap trainer on in at all times on my bike.

This.

You'll leave your skewer at a cycling event, then try your regular one on the trainer even though it doesn't fit quite right.... and your bike will fall out of the trainer with you on it mid-workout.

Then you drive to the bike shop and spend $8 on one that works
