Total Time = 1h 32m 44s
Overall Rank = 213/436
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 18/48
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 45 minute before needing to leave the house. Took a shower and brushed out my hair... Letting it air-dry before I would braid it back. Put on race kit plus sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt. Double checked my air pressure, brakes, and water bottles.

Since the venue was less than a 5 minute drive from my house, I rode my bike there and had breakfast in transition (coffe from Circle K, banana from home). I was there loooonnnnggg before the majority of the competitors and I preferred it that way.

Gear set up, body marked, 2 trips to the bathroom. Chat with some of the other racers.
Event warmup:

Bike ride to the venue (like 2 miles).

jumping jacks, arms swings, and stretching while waiting for my wave.
Swim
  • 13m 40s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started with a bang to get ahead of the main pack. This was a new tactic for me as I usually start to the back and constantly pass people. It went incredibly well. Did all my passing withing the first 200 yards or so. Passed a few people in the previous wave about halfway through, as well as one more pink cap.
Getting out of the water was a pain though... the ground was slick with algae.

What would you do differently?:

Find someone to draft on. maybe more warm-up?
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

My new goal in the off season will be to learn to ride with my shoes already clipped in. I already went sockless and that was awesome. Running in cleated shoes is never easy.
One person passed me in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Run barefoot with shoes already attached to the bike.

Comments:

I thought I only got passed by a couple in my age group but it was hard to tell. I thought I was going a lot faster than I was, but I haven't ridden since Lake Stevens.
Wind was opposite than I'm used to. Stayed in the drop as much as I could handle.
Passed a ton of the duathletes. In that regard, I felt good.
Meant to have a Gu, but didn't get to it.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Eat some calories. Also realized that I did not turn one of my water bottles into electrolytes.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Now I see the best benefit of the elastic laces and running sockless. I feel like a was a little slow, and i could feel the cramping coming into my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Feet on top of shoes as I come to the dismount line. Sockless, and elastic laces of I really want to get competitive.
Run
  • 33m 22s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 40s  min/km
Comments:

No nutrition was a bad idea. There were shot bloks at the first aid station, but no where else so I did not get any :(
Worse was the cramping. My calves specifically. I could hardly move my feet as a result. I would shuffle along a little, stretch, walk, then shuffle some more. I finally got into a good rhythm on the second loop so I tried to hurry.
What would you do differently?:

EAT on the bike. And maybe not push so hard on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Orange slice, water, and chocolate milk (in that order) while I walked around. Jon and I circled the parking lot, then went over to the "bubbly bar" for some mimosas that were actually mimosas (unlike last year). Finally sat down and did some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor training. Poor balance of disciplines.
