Wondering what the situation is like to drive to the Philly marathon on race morning. Where can you park? Lots? Streets? What time would you need to get there.

How about public transportation? Any good options that get you close to the start?

Thanks in advance.

I usually park at a lot at 18th and Vine. Pretty  easy to get to and from off the Vine St Expressway. There is street parking if you get out there early enough, maybe 5:30 or so. I'd suggest staying north of the Parkway, just seems easier to me. I've never taken public trans; I'm sure it's doable but I prefer to have my car.

ETA - I was thinking of signing up for the half...$125?!?!?! Eff that!

I booked a room at a hotel near the airport. Anyone know if it is worth trying to drive in to park somewhat near the start? I'm not very familiar with philly. I saw somewhere you need to be there by 5 and SEPTA doesn't start running until after 5. What if I get up ungodly early, is parking to be had? Safe? Costly?

I have always parked in lots around 22nd-23rd Sts. in the area of Arch to Winter Sts--basically behind the Franklin Institute.  Never had trouble getting a spot, a short walk to and from the start/finish, safe enough and probably ~$10-15 in years past.

My sister warned me about being used as a launch ramp by faster swimmers but much to my surprise I was the one swimming over those in front of me. I went around one woman, then another.
