Subject: Best Race?!?!
Hi Everyone,

I am starting to plan my 2015 race schedule and I would like to do one or two out of town races. I would love to hear what is everyone's favorite race and why.

Thanks Nina

Wildflower, the weekend long festival atmosphere is great!

However 2015 may be difficult unless we get some rain in California to replenish the lake. For the 2014 race the lake was at 5% capacity and the swim start/finish was 2 miles from the main transition area.

There are so many events out there.  Help people narrow it down a bit...

How far out of town are you thinking?

What race distance?

What time of year?

I'll throw out there: the first round lottery has already been drawn for Escape from Alcatraz 2015, but most people love that race.

Augusta 70.3 and Louisville Ironman both have great fan support. A lot of cow bells and cheering.

I loved both races and plan to do Augusta again since it is only a hour drive from my house.

First time doing B2B this weekend but from what I understand it is a great race.

I hear the 1/4 of Bruges is great fun... You'll have to buy a ticket to Belgium though :-)

I live in St Louis so that is pretty much right in the middle of the country. I probably won't travel to Hawaii but in general I wouldn't mind going far.

For the race distance, I would only travel far for an Olympic or a Half-Ironman. I dont know if I am ready for a half yet but that is on my goal list within the next 4 years.

Time of year wont matter really. I prefer better weather than extreme heat or cold but I think everyone does too.

So far my favorite race is DC's Nation's triathlon. It was so much fun to go aroudn the landmarks and it was well marked too.

Thanks!
Nina

What's your limiting factor as far as discipline goes?

I'm a crappy swimmer and still swam 32 minutes at Augusta this year.  Great place for a race.

Hey Russ

I'm just planning for 2015 really. My guess is that I'll try for an Olympic in may and late June early July then another in September.

But I'm flexible right now.

Another vote for B2B. My 4th time on Saturday (I've done both half and full....both are excellent, fun, energetic, fast, and killer volunteers)

The race I enjoyed the most was Gravenhurst, Ontario because you are boarded onto the Segwun, North America's oldest coal fired steamship, and taken out into the bay where you jump off and swim back to shore. The run and bike are pretty also.

The AG race at the WTS race in Edmonton is always tops. Closed bike course, ITU production value and the best Pros in the world to watch afterwards.

Nations is definitely an "event".  If you liked that, I'm guessing that you like the excitement of larger events?

My favorite HIM's are Savageman and Musselman.

I haven't done it, but have had clients race Rev3 Cedar Point, and really enjoy it.

Chicago is a qualifier only. All other WTS races have an open AG race.

I did AG Nationals last year and it was great. Probably on of the nations best "stand alone" Olympic distance races (not part of a 70.3 or 140.6 event). You can qualify at the sprint or Olympic distance and usually the easiest is at a regional qualifier. Very flat and fast. Later in the day they did some Pro super sprint races which was very cool.

I've only heard great things about Savageman, I want to do that one myself but it's a hilly bike course so it's great for those who like a challenge.

Mark... The lake is about a foot higher than last year. hopefully they will get more rain before May! The race will still happen, and most likely be the same format as last year. I only got to do the bike portion of a relay, so looking forward to this years race, no matter the format! Plus you're right the entire weekend vibe is an awesome experience!!

Ironman St. George 70.3 and any of the Vineman races. Both great destinations and very well run races. St. George, however, is not for the faint of heart. The course is super tough and super beautiful: ironmanstgeorge.com.

The age group race at the ITU WAS race in Edmonton.

Why? Good venue, closed bike course. Best organization in North America. Check out the race video.

Perfect late season date for 2015 ( Labour Day weekend :-)

As every veteran athlete can attest, a non-existent or ill planned ‘race meal plan’ will leave you falling far short of your goals or even worse, in the medical tent.
