Sunny
Total Time = 1h 58m 36s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 1
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

Set up T1 and checked air in tires.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 18m 54s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim. Lake was calm, fog was cool and sun was blinding! Loved it!! They may begin an hour later next year.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

T1 actual time was great for a wetsuit race!!!!
Bike
  • 1h 04m 46s
  • 18 miles
  • 16.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Couldn't get my feet into the shoes on the bike. What a bozo!!! I know I killed at least a minute stopping and starting. Really ticked me off!!! Actually ran out of pedal on a few downhills!! Also, lost right aero pad at mile 14. Had to stop and pick it up. Seems the screw came loose. Therefore, I lost time riding the last few miles in a semi-aero position.
What would you do differently?:

Put my feet into the shoes like I normally do on a mount. Check all screws and bolts prior to race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Zoot Ultra Kane 9.5s did not want to go on my feet. Should have run with the Ultra Race 4.0s or the Kane 10s. Killed my T2 time.
What would you do differently?:

Run with different shoes. The Kane 9.5s are too tight with damp feet to slide ride in following a bike.
Run
  • 32m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not use water station. Kane 9.5s were comfortable but will not run with them again due to tightness and issues with getting them on.
What would you do differently?:

I ran my Ironman pace since this was a practice race. Overall, I'm satisfied with the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Little stretching, walked a bit to stretch out the calves.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Kane 9.5s.

Event comments:

Will return next year.

As the fog cleared, the buoy that I first saw earlier in the morning was just the first marker in a very long line of buoys that stretched across the lake like a runway for a 747 jetliner.

From couch potato to a tri in 8 weeks. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. The race organizers had it down and there were no problems at all. This was the perfect first tri, in my opinion.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
