Well for at least the next 3 months I'm without my running buddy, my dog Cooper.  He somehow completely tore his superficial flexor tendon In his ankle and needed surgey to repair it (cha-ching). The next 4-6 weeks are going to take forever until he can begin his joint movement...

Oh, poor baby! Hope he heals up quick!

I'm sure it's going to be hard on him to watch you go out the door without him!!!

He's beautiful! Hope he is back with you soon!

Sorry to here that.  I have a similar issue with my 7 year old "puppy".  She has the canine equivalent of an ACL tear...we're getting ready to schedule her surgery....down time will be 8-12 weeks. She's the white lab in my avatar.

Poor guy, hope he recovers quickly. I have three English Bulldogs. The only running they do is to the dinner bowl.

We feel your pain! I. Wishing Cooper a speedy and healthy recovery. I've spent the last 4 months running without this guy due to a hiking injury. Today was the 1st day back & the first day of my marathon training. You'll live the day you get him back again.

Best of luck.

Poor Cooper. I hope he recovers quickly.

Two weeks ago, my husband brought home an abused dog. She is young and energetic with long, muscular legs, so I am training her to be my running partner.

Hoping Cooper a quick recovery, but on the plus side... what a fashionable "collar of shame."

Our lab blew out both knees at age 3 I think.  We got one fixed, $2,500 +,  ouch.

Heal up quick, puppers!

I'm trying to train one of my border collies to be my running buddy.  He currently has a faster pace than I do but he's pretty handy for pulling me up the hill to my house at the end of my run.

I also choose not to think about how much my fur-kids cost per pound.  We recently had to pay $2,600 for our 7-lb. cat who had bladder stones.  Now she's on a prescription diet, and probably will be for the rest of her life and she's only 7.  She's pricey, but absolutely worth every penny.

happyscientist, enjoy your new dog and thank you for giving her a good home.

Hope Cooper recovers well and cost is nothing when it comes to our pets! We were facing a $5k+ bill for spinal surgery to our then 4 year old pup, but, thankfully rest healed her.

Sorry to hear about your running buddy. I bet he is up and on all four paws again sooner rather than later. Being a healthy runner (As opposed to a couch potato) he will probably heal quicker.

Hopefully he can ditch the cone of shame soon.

Thanks everyone.  He's bumming right now, just wants to be at our side all the time and have someone touching him.

We told our son that his car for his senior year is out as the surgery took all his car money!  Cost was $3700 and we still have weekly visits for the next 6 weeks to cover too. Could have been worst though, on the initial exam the surgeon thought the Achilles was ruptured too but it wasn't.

OH WHY DIDN"T WE SIGN UP FOR THAT PET INSURANCE. We were all set to do it when he was a pup then figured we never had any issues with our other dogs!

Collies are very smart dogs. You should be able to train him to slow down. I had the same problem with Archer, my super sprinter Australian Shepard. I had to start him running with a vest or backpack. Similar to the way service dogs associate their vest with being orderly, not sniffing, and increased discipline, he now knows that its time to run, but not like we do at the park chasing frisbee; I am in control. No sniffing allowed. Stay out from under my feet.

It took a long time anytime my leash had tension to say "WAIT" sharply and stop running. We had to do this waking alot first. Eventually he learned that running is more fun when we're not stopping every 30 seconds.

It takes time, but you'll get there

Why it’s so hard for us to talk about losing at a simple game? Sports are supposed to be about building positive character, supposed to be about fairness, equality, and striving for excellence.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

My main concern is obviously the running but my priority is weight loss. I really need any advice on how to get ready.
