Subject: Doing it for a girl
Hi everyone,
I met a really cute girl who kept turning me down because she said she wanted a boyfriend who was lean and athletic. I'm 6'0" and 210 lbs. I told her that I couldn't change my body shape but I could prove to her that I'm athletic. I did my first sprint distance triathlon (Long Beach Triathlon) this past August. I am officially registered for the Ironman Vineman 70.3 next year. I'm still talking to the girl but at this point, I realized that even if she and I don't work out, I still want to do this half-Ironman to prove to myself that I am strong enough to conquer anything. I am going to school full time, working on my doctorate in nursing and I work part-time on weekends. My current regimen looks like this:

Monday- 1 hr bike
Tuesday- 1 hr swim
Wednesday- 1 hr swim
Thursday- 32 mile bike, 5 mile run (however long it takes)
Friday- 32 mile bike, 5 mile run (however long it takes)
Saturday- Work
Sunday- Work

You are better off without her (what happens if you get injured and have to spend a couple months on the couch?). Do triathlons for you.

Agree with others, do this for your self, not for anyone else. She doesn't sound like such a nice person to me.

I think people come into our lives for a reason. Maybe she is special, maybe not, but she got you moving in a direction that will be very positive and I hope rewarding for you.

You should check out the training plans here on BT. You've got plenty of training time and the training plans they have will help you reach your goal. As far as the girl is concerned.........she led you to the exciting world of triathlons. Concentrate on your training, on YOUR finishline and your confidence level is going to rise along with your expectations. She may no longer look that appetizing in the end. Aim high, friend

I'm with the other responders on this one. Do it for you! This "cute girl" is not worth it - she obviously doesn't have a personality to match! Join a tri club and meet a cute tri girl who will be just as into tri as you! Good luck!

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.

My first reaction to wearing a skirt while running was, “are you crazy?” I am no girly girl. I then tried one of the newest skirts from Nicole DeBoom’s TRIKS line and I can tell you I’m hooked.
