I lost my 910XT and am in the market for a new one.

The question is which one to go with:

the Garmin 920XT or

the Garmin Fenix 2

I will be using primarily for triathlon training. I enjoyed the fact that 910XT tracked my indoor lap swimming info.

I love my Fenix 2. It is extremely powerful in terms of data/metrics and they ironed out lots of the early release kinks so the upload is seamless, etc. You can track indoor/outdoor swims with both but I don't know much about the 920. I imagine the functionality of the two is very similar given they were release so close together. A big difference, to me, is wearability- the Fenix 2 can be an everyday (albeit a bit big) watch whereas the XT is just too geeky to be an everyday watch. I don't care about the looks but it is one less thing to forget if I can just wear my watch and always have it when the urge to exercise takes me. Just my reason for getting the Fenix 2 over the 910 (when that was the "other" watch).

Besides the different form factors, the 920xt has the added features of notifications from your cell phone, wifi data upload as well as activity-tracking functions (with GPS off). It also has a live-tracking feature. Otherwise the training features are pretty similar.

Check out DC Rainmaker's review for more detail:

Fenix 2 has those features too. I actually run on the treadmill sometimes and it logs speed and distance pretty accurately. Haven't tried the alerts because I don't want to get alerts from my phone when I am training, but I know it supports those features. DC rainmaker reviews are incredible!

Does anyone know when the 920xt will be available? I'm trying to buy one from REI given my membership but they never seem to have any in stock.

I don't know if I should post this as I want to win it... But triathlonforum is giving a 920xt away around the first of the year. No details on the contest yet as they launch jan 1
