Turkey Trot 5k, my son (15) and I have a little challenge going.  He win's he gets a new xBox1 game of his choice, I win I get to carry the "honor" in to my 50's!

I haven't trained in 4 weeks since my last race, only some easy lifting.  Will start some "training" this week to get the legs back under me.  My son is not a runner, last year he ran it in a 25:13 (8:07).  He is a competitive swimmer and in the past 6 months he has come on strong dropping 27 seconds in his 500 Free and 5" in his 100 free.

I think I may be in trouble!

Come on man, you can do it! Can't let those teenagers get the best of the old guys. Dig deep & keep the bragging rights, well for at least one more year right?

RAcing my 19 year old in this year's Turkey Trot. it will be his first 5k, but he is a VERY in shape 19 year old. He ran a 15 minute 3200m on the track at college, so I think I am in trouble. Its just a friendly thing, but he is already talking trash.

I'd have a backup plan involving sabotaging his race just in case.

Ah man the agony of defeat!

I was taking a look at some of our old pictures, how time fly's!  This was our 1st Turkey Trot 5k together in 2007 when he ran it in 34:09.

And last year with his 25' run:

I ran 3.7 last night with my wife, WOW I lost it quick!  Looking forward to the 5k and running side-by-side with him again as it's been awhile since we've done that.

Love these pics! I just got my own smack down from my son in a 5k last month and he's only 8!

I stink at running.

I still got him on the bike and swim though .

Since we're posting adults and kids racing together - I can't resist this opportunity for a family brag.

I raced against two of my nephews in a 5km race this summer. Both of them beat my time of 21:37. I knew what they were capable of so I never really had any hope that I would beat either of them. Altogether there were five family members in the race. My 11 year old nephew's time was 21:23 which is not a particularly good race for him - he has run 5km in under 20 minutes.

Here's two pictures. Riley is the boy in the race photo with the serious game face. I'm #5532, behind him over his right shoulder. The gang in the group photo from left to right (with AG placing in brackets)...

Sister in law, Sue (1)
Don (me) (1)
Wife Beth (4)
Nephew Riley, age 11 (1)
Nephew Matthew, age 16 (1)

I handled over the family 5k trophy to my son today, 24:10 to 24:15.  Worst part he's sick, I caught him at 2miles when he stopped to walk as he was gasping and made him continue with me.  But we all said he's on PED's (Dayquil) so there's an * next to it!  I had no kick to stay with him over the last 200 yards and he pulled away from me.  Now 8 hours later I know why, I have teh cold he has cold coming on strong throughout the day.  No excuses though!

Now the question is, are you retiring into the sunset or ramping up training next year to get the trophy back?

Last time I raced my son in a 5 K he was 14 and not training to run(played soccer though). He did a run walk for the 5K, I think the walk was just to tease me- as soon as I got close he would take off running again. He beat me by about 2 minutes and won his age group.

Pix of me and my daughter after a HM at Disney a couple of years ago. Joy on our faces comes from the fact that the race is over.
