Comments:

Took off feeling good, mentally wondering if I could get a PR or come close. My overall runs have been lacking.

Spotted RLyle out in front and decided to latch on for a bit with him. We dropped the first mile in 8:47 when I asked what his goal was. He stated he ran NY and was "taking it easy", but quickly changed his mind when mile 2 showed 8:12. I conceded that I could not hold that pace and backed it down to the 8:40s. He decided he wanted to attack the "Highland Hill" and see what he had.

I cruised up Highland hill toward Bottega, and then decided mile 3-4 was horrible. After 4, it was all downhill and I bombed it. I tried keeping the low 8s where I could and started really pushing the pace at the 5mi mark to keep it at 8:30 or less.

I was hurting at 5-5.5, but kept pouring it on, wondering how close I was.

Once I could see the spectators at the line, I dropped the hammer and gave it all. I managed to finish about 30seconds slower than my best.

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
