Weight training 4x a week, 30 min z1-2 run everyday, sufferfest video 2x a week, 20 min swim 2-3x a week and a group ride on sundays doing hills. very laid back group ride. That is all right now. trying to maintain some fitness from IMFL.

I think gaining 10lbs before training is a GOOD idea lol...I cant keep weight on once the training picks up.

A question for those of you with a swim background.

I havent swam in almost 6months...would this be a good time to join a "master swim" or maybe find a coach? Ive heard that "bad habits" are hard to unlearn in swimming. Would a 6month layoff be long enough to unlearn some of them?? Seems like it would be easier to learn now than after I swam for few months and reinforced my bad techniques. Do you think it would make any difference?

I don't have a swim background but I'm a big fan of masters swim programs. Then again left on my own I won't actually swim so I need that extra push of a coach saying do this - do that.

Six months out - that's going to sting. I've been out for 2 months and getting back into it is not fun.

Yup, I'm in for IM #2.

LP was my first in 2013. It was not my finest moment (lack of training) and I hope to have a MUCH better race in '15.

TheCuse, I have done shorter races this year - Rev3 Knoxville Oly, Rev3 Maine and a couple of others. It's been a really tough year for our family so training took a back seat. It's been baby steps getting back into it.

I hear ya "life happens" lol...I ran into that this past year. Thankfully I was only doing a half or I would have been in deep doo-doo

Seriously need to tighten my diet up before I hit those hills though.

My sister is visiting from the UK so I am taking her to LP for a couple of days, leaving tomorrow. I wonder what the water temp is?! Quick dip.

Finks plan starts the wkend after new years right? I followed it to the letter the 1st time, and then used it as a rough guide the 2nd time...im not sure what ill do this time. I should probably figure that out pretty quick huh! lol

I'm with you on the 5-10 minutes off feeling. I hope to work hard again on my swim for this race... and the bike...and the run.

I have been in the "off" mode since October. I am totally itching to get back to focused training. Let's not even talk about turkey nap mode. I ate so much on Christmas morning brunch that I wasn't hungry for dinner or even the next breakfast this morning.

lol...its good to indulge once in awhile and especially now with training looming around the corner.

Whats everyone doing for their "plan"?

I did fink religiously the 1st time and am 100% confident that it puts you in a solid position to finish. I tweaked things the 2nd time. I kind of followed it but went a little shorter on time but upped the intensity...I took almost an hour off my time. But was it because of the training? Or because I had another year of training under my belt? Was it because I it was 10-15 deg cooler?? I have no idea lol

I do know that I dont know enough about training to do it with out some kind of structure...so what are you other folks doing??

I'm using a coach from SonicEndurance.com

I had a different coach in 2013 but feel this coach is a much better fit.

A coach would be nice! I just got divorced and still have one child under 21 so i get 3 yrs child support and 7 years of alimony. woo hoo...i'll be lucky if I can afford new running shoes this spring.

but im happy so im not complaining!

Oh unfortunately I don't know that song. Or at least I don't think I do. But there are a few Amy songs that people will occasionally sing to me which is always kind of sweet.

Ya, the Fink program will start Jan 5th (Monday). I followed the BT beginner or intermediate IM program for IM Louisville in 2013. It was 20 weeks and worked great. So this is will be your 3rd IM?
