I used to have problems with tightness along my sternum all the time and had to pop my chest to relieve the pain. No idea why or what it was - maybe a remnant form when I cracked my ribs. I'm better now and I think it's because I started rowing at the gym, which improved my shoulder posture (opening up the chest). I also stand at my desk now, so I'm not hunched over my computer all day. Absolutely no science to back that up, just my observation. Maybe try laying with your spine along the roller to let your shoulder blades get a good stretch back.
yeah, this is a good idea actually. Especially if you swim a lot, do a lot of driving or computer work, the pecs get tight, restrict rib movement in the front of the ribcage. I stretch the pecs in a door frame and also I use a lacrosse ball right in the belly of the pec muscle either by pressing it in with my opposite hand, leanign against a wall or laying on the ground. kind of like the roller you want to use, but more focused release of the chest muscles.
