Thanks for the head up. Just need to decide the perfect rear wheel to use.

Are these beneficial without an aero front? And on a road bike? I know it sounds silly, but that's pretty cheap as far as bike parts go, and if it really does make me faster, I could be interested....

Absolutely.   Aero is aero, and any improvement in aerodynamics helps.

In terms of bang for the buck for buying speed, that is probably the best you will come across, hands down.

I first bought a wheelbuilder disc for my road bike. Then was able to move it to the tri bike too. I purchased a mismatched front wheel at the end of the season for a good deal. Was able to make a pretty fast set-up on the cheap. They say that you need to be riding about 18mph to recognize the difference from the wheel, I saw it immediately. At least 1 mph faster on a 70.3 course.

I'll probably pick one up then! My wheels are pretty aero as far as aluminum road bike wheels go, and I ride above the speed it should make a difference. My favorite speed is cheap speed!

My current training wheels are narrow aluminum 40mm Felt TTR2 and up until I recently bought the set of FLO wheels they were my racing wheels too, I made a disc cover for the rear.  With crosswinds it actually provides stability to the bike as it acts like a stabilizer fin.

As long as you're moving it's going to be faster. For a good comparison of the 30mm rim uncovered & covered, look at the top blue-ish line and the red line in the following graph. As a rule of thumb, at 20 mph you save 30s over a 40K(25miles) for a 50 g of drag reduction.  A disc cover should be just one part of the overall savings one can do, the others such as having a tri-bike for optimal positioning, clothing, bottle type & placement, low rolling resistance tire & latex tubes and so on.

Thanks, I saw those graphs on the wheel builder site. I have 30mm deep 24mm wide wheels right now (Boyd Altamonts). I know all the good stuff about aero products. I can't afford a tri-bike right now, so I'm making the most out of what I can work with budget wise. I do have an aero road helmet and GP4000s tires with latex tubes already. I put more emphasis on getting stronger to overcome the position deficit of my road bike, but any cheap changes I can make to be faster in my next race are always welcome!

Those look like they'll save me 30 minutes on my next OLY distance! Weird I didn't see any pros using them at Kona though??

You're probably right, but they don't sponsor any pro triathletes either!  Over on ST people will state that if you're looking at saving every possible aero W then one should include these (and don't forget to shave your legs ).

This company sponsors athletes for stated claims up to 1% gain in frictional losses (no data provided) in the drive train.  And some athletes run a large chain ring (and/or derailleur pulleys) to gain as much as they can in drive train losses. Dr Andrew Coggan noted ~0.6% gain, or 2W at his FTP, between a 60 & 53 here).

Thanks for the heads up. I've wanted one of these for a while. I know the site says it may be incompatible with shimano wheels, but has anyone tried putting one of these on a shimano R500 wheel?

Not sure what the issue is with it, maybe there's not enough clearance between cassette at the hub. If that is the case then the hole should be able to be enlarged so that it is not near the hub/cassette.  If small holes are drilled into it around a few spokes then small zip ties can hole it to maintain the profile/centering like shown here.
