I'm pretty new to triathlons and just purchased my a new Cervelo P2. For the past year had a road bike with aero bars. Have used Profile design aqualite bottle. I see a lot of people using the bottle cage setup BTA the arms now. My question is while riding do most people stay in aero while removing the bottle to drink or do they sit up? I'm still getting comfortable with the handling on the P2 since I'm new to it so just curious about what stuff I may need to work on.

I can stay in aero, but tend to look for places where I can sit up. Like on an uphill. It's still easier sitting up.

thanks. I might practice staying in aero. I like the bottle cage setup look better than the the aqua lite bottle with straw and obviously for bottle exchanges it makes it far easier.

I stay in aero where possible.  If it's really windy or road conditions (traffic, other racers or road debris) dictate that would be unwise, I sit up.

I stay in aero as well.  I also have a cage mounted behind the saddle with a spare bottle....I stay aero when swapping the bottles as well.  Once you get comfortable in aero, it's possible that it will feel more comfortable than being on the horns -- I know that was the case for me.

i sit up.  it's not worth a random gust of wind or squirrel taking me out while i've only got one arm balancing me on an aero bar.  in a race i would never not sit up simply because of all the sketchy riders out there.  the impact of staying in aero vs sitting up to drink on your workout is zero.

I have bottle cage zipped to my bars. Very cheap option. I can drink from it while staying aero.

Do you have a picture? How secure is that?

Thanks. That's probably what I'll do. I don't feel comfortable enough yet to be in aero and have one hand off the bar. Maybe when I get more comfortable that will change.

I'll get a picture tonight. Pretty secure. It's 4 zip ties.

I'm guessing that since you are in Tampa you don't spend much time on a trainer, but if you do...
Practice it then when you have no way of crashing. Even though the bike is locked down, you can feel the difference between smoothly removing, sipping, replacing the bottle or not.

I also have a cage zip tied between my bars. It is very common and very sturdy. One potential upside vs. the torpedo (besides price) is that you may be able to mount it lower (more between the bars vs. sitting on top of the bars).

I'll definitely try it out. I do have a trainer since during the week it gets dark early in the winter (obviously) and I don't like riding at night.

Thanks for the pics. That looks very simple. I will have to try that.

Known for its brutal cadences, nasty sprints and 12-minute hills, the spin class seems to be the perfect substitute for a raunchy ride outside. But is it?
