Good wheel sets in the 900-1000 range?

Elite  3140    |  Subject: Good wheel sets in the 900-1000 range?Before I pull the trigger on a set of FLOs, I figured I should be certain there are not other wheel sets I am overlooking that are near that price point. The FLO's are in my price range(900-1000) and seem to have great reviews.
Any others in that price range worth looking at? thanks |

Veteran 434 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Good wheel sets in the 900-1000 range? I was in the same situation about 12-18 months ago and bought a set of SRAMs (60 front / 80 rear) for about $1100. It was as much because the Flos were unavailable because they were between shipments. You're probably better off with the Flos but might want to see what SRAMs run these days as an alternative. |

That is to say, from people who actually own and use them, not people who just write them off because they aren't Envy or Zipp. They don't have quite the following Flo has yet, but I haven't read anything negative from people who own them. Word is, quick shipping and excellent customer service too. I'm debating between them and Flos myself, but money is holding me back on either, so I haven't gotten too worried about it. http://www.yoeleo.com/wheels.html That website is pretty cumbersome to navigate, but they are also sold through some other online dealers, not sure which though. Any others in that price range worth looking at? thanks I looked for a while for wide rimmed wheels only and just couldn't beat the FLO on cost, I ended up buying used on eBay. That said, there's set of FLO 60's on there for $800 shipped. |

I'm riding a set of 60-mm deep 23-mm wide U-shaped Yoeleo wheels on my road bike. Profile of the wheel is nearly identical to the current Zipp, Envy, and Hed shapes. Couldn't be happier with them. Delivery took about 3-weeks and total cost for the set was about $600. It does seem to me that the "Chinese" wheels are gaining market share with the hard-core road racers in my part of the country. I've had one issue and it was buying from a person without a history. But eBay got my money back in no time.If you go that route make sure you tell the person to ship then wheels in a wheel box, either as singles or a double wheel box and to make sure there is no way for physical contact between the two. I once received a wheelset where they were shipped together in a single box with foam peanuts and no endcaps on the hubs. I delined to accept the shipment because there were holes where the hubs were on one end of one was ground down. Not to mention the peanuts were falling out of the box. The guy wasn't happy I declined receipt of them but that was his problem for going cheap on the packaging. I've shipped wheels before, I go to the LBS and get wheel boxes for free that they are going to put in the dumpster. |

One piece I bought is a single piece carbon stem and bar. Its not quite the right size for the steerer tube, has a minor crack near the hardware and one of the bolts stripped too. The seat post I got, the clamp took a lot sanding and fiddling with to tighten down enough to keep my seat from moving. Think I paid $150 total with free shipping for the two parts. Will run them till they break and replace with higher quality bits.I do like the compliance provided by the carbon bars but there's a funny swopping shape near the stem when I run lights and that shape makes putting a light on a PITA. I'm in the market for aero road wheels and Yoeleo offerings are not quite enough to try them again. I have some Flo 60s on the Tri bike, but want something lighter for the roadie. |

Flo is a great option in that price point. I would also look for some used Zipp 404 Firecrests. I was one day away from ordering some Flo's when I talked to the owner of my LBS. He sold me a pair of demo Zipp 404 FC's for $1,500. This was a few months before the new Firehawk came out, now that there is a new latest and greatest wheel the FC's may be a bit cheaper. The Zipps are lighter, may not break quite as good but have worked fine for me. But you can't go wrong with Flo and their customer service. I will likely buy some 30's from them at some point. |

If you don't mind used and could shop around... you can probably spend half that for a good set of race wheels (deep front + cover) or about the same for a cover/power/deep front. All depends. |

There was an immediate noticeable difference. E.g., on the Ovals they replaced, the minimal air pressure recommended by the tire manufacturer was too much for me. Bike bounced with every bump & I felt all the road vibration. Same tires & pressure on the 30's... completely stable, smooth, compliant, etc. |

FLO uses the wider rims that provide many advantages over traditional width rims. Not saying those Zipps (which are just rebadged SRAM 60's) are bad. Just not worth the price when a set of FLO wheels cost $900. |

Was going to hold off but they won't be for sale again till late february. Got 60/90 stealth black....... though it is more of the "engine" than the wheels anyway, I figure if I am not faster I will at least look "cooler".....and that is what is really all about anyway, right ? lol |

Our bike team is picking up a new sponsor and the deals on their wheels is something I'm not gonna pass on. My Flo's have a few 100 miles on them and much of the black left on the brake track. I did the 60/60 combo so both my wife and I could use them and disc cover on the rear makes them super versatile. |

I always check someone with a lot of positive feedback and maybe you can find a local person where you can look before you buy. I ended up getting a pair of HED carbon tri spokes on EBAY and just asked for the serial numbers to check if they were authentic and examined the photos. I think Ebay also helps you fight if what is shipped is not what was posted or damaged, etc. If I were going to go with a spoked wheel, the flos is probably where I would look or go to my local LBS that builds wheels and have something built for me at that price range.
