Subject: 2015 Triathlon Schedule

The lion's share of 2015 triathlons have been confirmed. Here's a way-too early schedule. The big questions surround what is happening with the 5150 Series. As of now, I think it may not happen. I suspect the championship in Des Moines may appear simply as the Hy-Vee Triathlon. PEM and Silverback are both quiet on this front, so I surmise there may be something in the works for a new series.

Mudwater in Goddard KS will be moving back to their regular time frame - I just confirmed it will be July 12 in 2015.

Maple Leaf city sprint in Baldwin moved to July 25th for next year.. 5 of us went last year. It was a lot of fun. Inexpensive, small, well organized.

The area schedule just got a lot more crowded with Legend Tri throwing out a bevvy of new triathlon options. Still no official word on the fate of KS 5150 and also the Silverback Tri, but I think these new announcements safely puts those races to rest, with a couple of new interesting options in their place. I know that Legend is different than Silverback (wink, wink) but these are some cool new options. The KC tri schedule is even more cramped though with tons of options.

I'd really like to get more people out to that event to build the Midwest up in terms of people moving towards qualifying for Nationals and making it one of the more competitive races. As you know the last time I saw you out there it was only moderately competitive.

Here's the latest update. I've removed the 5150 tris as those appear to be dead as can be (although official word has not come). Also, I think it's now safe to say that the barrage of Legend Tri's have effectively replaced the Sept Silverback Tri. Right now, the only question mark appears to be the Aloha Tri which claims to make its return in August. At this point, I would not be surprised to see 3-4 more new triathlons pop up...time will tell.

Race is only $60, goes up March 1 to a whopping $65 and there's race morning packet pickup. Will this qualify for 2015 Nationals or will it be too late and go for 2016?

Actually for an interesting clarification, because of the timing of our regional (unlike others much earlier in the year) you can do a double qualification for Nationals 2015 and 2016 if you place correctly. I did this a few years ago qualifying for 2013 and 2014 during the 2013 regional in Omaha.

To qualify for the 2015 Nationals you need to be top 33% in your age group - Nationals reserves some spots for regional qualifiers so be vigilant about contacting the national race organizers if you qualify and want to go. Nats is usually sold out by the time our regional rolls around.

To make your double qualification you need to be top 10% in your age group at this regional. This just falls under the "normal" qualification for nationals, but because its so late in the race season the qualification for 2016 already starts.

So if you're interested in nationals and want to try to go for a double whammy at a reasonable price then this race is a good bet.
