New to triathlon, planning on doing my first tri in 2015. Looking for recommendations for beginner friendly races, the closer to Greensboro the better.

Thanks

My first one is in your back yard- Buckner Mission Man in July---just a little north of Burlington. Absolutely fabulous first race- honest course, beautiful lake, great post-race food put on by the kind, motherly ladies of the local church. There is also Belews Lake in the Spring and Fall- also a very nice venue and race---about 30 mins north of Greensboro. There are a whole host in the triangle area if you want more options. Look at fsseries and setupevents for all your options and post your questions. There are lots of people on here who have done the various races and can help you make a decision.

Trivium racing holds some events out that way. I have no idea if they are good or "beginner friendly", but it can't hurt to look into it. http://triviumracing.com/events/triathlons.html

Three come to mind in Charlotte

huntersvile Sprint end of April (500 yard pool swim, 20k ride and 5k run)
Tri-Ballantyne in July
Statesville Y (actually in Troutman) in August

If I had to pick one - Tri-Ballantyne but Huntersville is great too (partial to this one as it was my first)

"Fandom" in triathlon compared to other sports. If you're a sports fan and simply love to follow sport, why pick a sport that may offer a view of the start, the finish and a few moments in between?

Don't worry, you can't do anything that hasn't been done before. Read this article for some humorous insights of one triathlete's introduction to the sport.
