What are some of your "fun"/favorite treadmill workouts? I tried some new ones the past 2 weeks which are sort of fun.

The first one is: 15min WU, (3min 10K pace, 1.5-2min RI, 2 min 5K pace, 1 min RI)x 5 or however long you want to make it, 10+ min CD
2nd one: 15 min WU, start ~.7mph slower than 5K pace. Every minute bump it up .1 mph for 10 minutes. 5 min RI. Repeat 1 more time. Going to try to work up to three sets of this.

What are some of your more interesting workouts? These really helped pass the time for me as going steady pace on the dreadmill is awful.

Sorry, but that is an oxymoron for me. I just try to distract myself with a good movie.

I always end up doing progression runs on the treadmill because, yeah, steady state is really boring. Every quarter mile, or every song on your playlist, or every commercial break if you're watching tv, or some time interval, just bump up the speed one notch until you're done.

Quarter mile sprints (.25 miles on/.25 miles recovery) are another favorite. Longer intervals on the treadmill for me just draaaaag (but I've done everything up to 1 mile repeats).

Those two words really don't go together for me. Kind of like "toddler" and "sexy," while ok by themselves, when put together create something that is just plain wrong.

I'll still participate and say that I can get good workouts in on the treadmill.

10 min WU followed by 4 to 6 x 1 mile repeats with 0.25 mile jog intervals, and 3 x 2 mi with 0.25 jog intervals are great workouts I did for my last marathon.

10 min WU followed by 1k (0.62 mile) x 3 to 5 repeats with 1 to 2 min recovery and work it out so it averages to your goal 5k pace. Make the first ones a bit slower, and the last ones a bit faster.

Speedwork in general isn't so bad, since you stay pretty focused on time and pain, and boredom really doesn't have a chance to work its way in. I'll do some easy recovery runs on the treadmill since the surface is pretty forgiving. But I need to watch something as a distraction, or at the very least have some music. Any other time I run longer on the treadmill, its most likely an act of desperation.

Build the mental endurance.  Call me crazy but I actually enjoy the feeling after completing 2+ hours on the treadmill.  I listen to music but no television.  Watching those numbers tick by almost becomes hypnotic.

When I do have to use it, its best use is for doing Interval's., probably the most fun too.

Love working out on the treadmill, and during the winter months find it indispensable for training. The past two marathon cycles, and for my last half as well, did all my repeats (whether speedwork or strengthwork) on a PF treadmill. Have done tempo runs, long runs, random "hill" work when the weather has been inhospitable to having fun outside. Training for the Boston Marathon starts this week, and for my first set of repeats next week (12 x400m), you'll find me at PF. Can't wait!

Constantly changing the incline / speed to imitate outdoor runs.  Never running more than 2 minutes without changing.  I have managed 4 hour treadmill runs.  Also, listen to James Brown or a watch good movie or two.

Don't get me wrong, I still use it. I put a couple of 2 hr + session in on it this fall when getting ready for a marathon. I would have preferred to run outside, but my choice was running in 35°F temps with heavy rain or the treadmill.

And yes it is good for intervals.
Not to mention the mental aspect of it. 2 hrs on a treadmill makes a 4 hr marathon sound pleasant!

I watch TV or movies. When a car chase, shootem' up or other exciting bit comes on I run like hell. It keeps it random
