66 | Subject: RE: How often do you race? This was my first year doing tris. From April-Nov I did a total of 5 triathlons. 4 sprints and 1 oly (that was my last race). I think that's not too bad? I'd honestly have done way more if not for the 1.) Demands of my family (2 babies and a husband... 3 babies) and 2.) The cost of races/travel. Yeah, I wish I could do more :/ |

Yeah, I wish I could do more :/ I find it impressive! Especially since you must care for your biggest baby! |

184 | Subject: RE: How often do you race? Originally posted by Antoine tri Originally posted by Phebes Hello BT, This is my 7th month of Sprint Tri Training ( did my first tri in August). Within a span of 3 months, how often do you race ( any race/distance --- run, swim, bike, dualthon, triathlon)? Why do you do it? Thank you. I just noticed you also ask why we race. In my case, that would be for fun. I did my first triathlon as a personal challenge, I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. I also did my second for the same reason. At the third one, the stress level was much lower and I had even more fun then at the first two ones. Now I race for fun. I train all year long, the race is a reward for all those efforts I do. What were your motivations for your first race and how did you feel after it? Hello, after my first tri I'm hooked!!!! 1) I do tri training because I have a very young daughter (Kinder) and I'm almost 50!!!. I want to stay healthy ( want to be young lookeing when she graduates in high school ) 2) Tri race keeps me accountable. I like the balance of the three sports which makes exercise exciting. 3) Being with other tri athletes encourage me. In my recent run race, one of the participants who did the half marathon is an Olympic athlete. She was #30 in Olympic Marathon (Beijing 2008). I live in a very small town, having an Olympic Athlete in the race encourages me. Another person that inspired is a 73 year old , the oldest who finished the half marathon and he is NOT the last finisher. 184 | Subject: RE: How often do you race? Originally posted by Donskiman I've done more than 40 races in a year. This year I'll have done only 8. Spent much of the year recovering from a broken fifth metatarsal that happened in a trail race late last year. I do it because racing makes me go much harder than training and I like to see where I stand with others in my age group. I was not athletic in my younger years. Now that I'm almost 50, I want to challenge myself. Like you, I want to see where I stand and train harder after the race. |

261 | Subject: RE: How often do you race? I am signed up for the following next year: 2 bike races to bookend the year (Barry-Roubaix and Iceman) I start the year with a couple of running races, a half marathon followed by a 25k a couple of weeks later. Then I switch to triathlons. 2 olympic, 1 sprint, and then my big A race, a 70.3 towards the end of August. Back to running for a fall marathon Overall I have maybe 10 events planned (2 bike races, 3 running, 4 or 5 triathlons). It's a busy year but the timing between events works out well. I'm sure my team will talk me into another race or two, but those will just be for fun. |

Expert 2373 Floriduh | Subject: RE: How often do you race? I did 3 races this year A HM in the spring and 2 sprints in the fall. The training for the HM left me with a groin pull so I will be foregoing that this year and focusing on doing more sprint tri next year, maybe 2 in spring, 2 in fall |

New user 72 | Subject: RE: How often do you race? In 2012 we did 24 races (2 per month). That was too much for me. This year I did 10: 3 half marathons 1 10 mile race 1 x-50 triathlon (1 mile swim, 40 mile bike, 9 mile run) 2 sprint tris 1 olympic tri 1 70.3 1 marathon 1 metric century ride That felt like about the right amount of racing to me. But I like longer training cycles where my husband would race every weekend if he could. |

Regular 309 Euless, Texas | Subject: RE: How often do you race? During the summer here near Dallas, I'm racing about once a month (May-September). After that, I maybe only race once or twice. But money has limited me lately. Otherwise, I'd be doing all kinds of things. Running races and adventure/obstacle races probably. |

Veteran 2297 Great White North | Subject: RE: How often do you race? This year probably 4 Tris... 2 sprint for sure and the other 2 will be sprint or oly depending on if draft legal is an option. DL for AGers is a sprint same as Juniors. I have 3-4 Masters swim meets I will enter and a few run races for tune ups. Been working hard for a few weeks now with an I.M. focus in the pool. My backstroke is feeling better and even my weak link the breaststroke is rolling along. Might be doing 100x100 at a cancer event and know swimming all 10 k free would suck. |

New user 80 Howell, Michigan | Subject: RE: How often do you race? During the upcoming season in Michigan, from mid May through early October, I'm scheduled to run: 5 Sprints 1 Olympic 1 Sprint relay (with son-in-law and daughter; her first race since having a baby) I'll run 2-3 5K's throughout the summer and will consider adding a destination race in the late fall. Why I do it...I started with tri's 3 years ago after a 25 year career as a world class couch potato, except for a few games of beer league hockey. I watched my neighbor run a race and wondered if I could finish one. I've been excited about tri's since. |
