Subject: Specilized Shiv vs Cervelo P2?
I have been researching my first Tri bike purchase for the last few weeks and I have had several test rides on different brands. I have narrowed my choices down to the 2014 Specialized Shiv Elite and 2015 Cervelo P2. The 2015 Cervelo P2 is now the exact same frame as the 2014 P3 but it has the 105 group set the same as the 2014 Shiv. The price points are exactly the same, the 2014 Shiv is 20% off at my local bike dealer bringing it down to the same level as the Cervelo P2. I know the choice will ultimately come down to personal preference and comfort but I posting here to get more opinions on both bike that don't come from a salesmen trying to sell me a EXPENSIVE bike. Fire away please.

Make sure it fits you… The Shiv and the P2 do fit quite differently. The Shiv is about the shortest and tallest frames available, so if that's what you need, they're perfect. Basically, one of them will fit you, but not both...

Different geometries on both bikes. There is a correct answer, but only a proper bike fitting will reveal which one that is. If the bike shop is telling you either one would work for you, I'd question their competence.

Thanks fellas, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I "tested" the Shiv and a Fuji Bike at one bike shop and it was on a trainer with just a quick seat adjustment for the fit. The Cervelo P2 was at another shop where I made an appointment for a fit and ride at a bike track and the P2 felt like a great fit. With the Shiv geometry being as stated I don't think it would be a good fit to my 6'2" 30" inseam TALL upper body geometry.

I was in your boat about a month ago. I'm a little shorter but built similar with a long torso. I went through the guru fit system and the the Shiv was way off for me. I was riding a P2 that could have been made to fit me but ended up getting a new Argon. But from the sound of things between those two bikes I would estimate the P2 would fit better as well.

The wheels are my first area of concern and I have started to shop around. I find it nauseating to think of spending the same amount for wheels as my bike. Any help?

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
