30min run last night 5.6km. Going to look at a used road bike tonight and if it checks out it will become my new commuter slave. I also picked up a used wetsuit from a BT'er earlier this week for a friend. He doesnt think he needs it as he had a "good swim the other day" but the reality is he swims like a cat thrown into a bathtub.

This is 275 yard pool swim, 14 mile bike, 5k run. It is literally 1 mile from my house. I'm going to ride my bike over and set up transition. Since this is my second race I think I can start making time oriented goals. So the swim is just under 4 minutes, bike around 48 minutes and run in 29 minutes. I have no idea how long transitions could take. The first 1 I did I had a lot of running into transition from swim. So I think under 1 hour 24 mins is my overall goal. This could put me in 3rd to 5th range based on previous years results for my age group. It would be really cool to get 3rd place. I keep practicing on the course and that 17.5 mph on the bike is the stretch that I'm most concerned about.

Tell him wait until he swims in the wetsuit, he will go from having a good swim to feeling like Aquaman.

Adding 1 hour masters swim this morning. I don't normally swim on Wednesdays and my masters group only has 3 lanes (we have the whole pool on Tues/Thurs), which were organized as what I would consider "too slow", "too fast", and "way too fast" relative to my ability level. So I chose the "too fast" lane and struggled a little to keep up. Had to skip a few 100's to stay with the group, but I'd rather be challenged than go too slow.

@ Mitch - I'm doing a HIM Labor Day weekend and planning to start the TR HIM plan around mid-June. Any interest in doing it?

Bought the bike tonight. Rocky Mountain is a good Canadian company who were one of the first few companies out there making mountain bikes - I always wanted one so when this road bike popped up at a good price I jumped on it. It has a carbon fork, seat post and seat stays, a triple up front and Tiagra/105 components. The guy I bought it from is an avid rider and he offered the choice of 2 stems and 7 seats to round out the package and get me what I needed. The seat I got is black and I will be changing the tape to black as well. Pedals for now will be some extra SPD mountain bike pedals that I have laying around which just might stay on seeing as the bike will primarily be a commuter and the mountain bike shoes are a little easier to deal with.

Dave, congratulations on the new bike. That's always exciting.

MarkZ, thank you for the kind words. You inspired me up to this point.

Dennis, I've heard there is a group riding the IMTX course on the 28th? Want to ride part of it with me? I may have my new bike by then.

That would be awesome Jackie, I will be happy to. The group organizing the ride is OutRival Racing and they are the Coaching company I am using for my HIM training in November. Have you given any more thought to the Oilman 70.3?

Today is the first day of my last year in the 40-44 AG. To honor that I did nothing this morning. Hung out at home and then went and watched my 5 year olds gymnastics class. Ate lunch and jumped on the trainer for 90 minutes (TR Mount Hope 5x10' @ 95-100% FTP). Plan to mosey over to the pool in a bit and get a swim in. Then hopefully a fat burger, beer and fries for dinner. And of yeah, cake!

I was all set to swim yesterday. Pick up my 5 year old daughter to give her a hug and a kiss. Tell her I'm off to the pool. She says, "daddy, why do you always have to leave us?". So...we went to the playground and hung out together instead.

This morning back at it on the treadmill.

So my bike is almost ready to be tricked out for any races. At Christmas I picked up an Aerobottle setup for between the aero bars. Has the mount for my Garmin computer as well. Yesterday I was lucky enough to get the Xlab turbo wing and two gorilla carbon bottle cages. For valentines day I got the aero bento bag for the top tube and the utility bag that goes on the Xlab turbo wing. I hope to get it all set up soon - once complete I'll get a nice pick of her outside to share.

LOL. It was an easy choice. I have a hard time saying no to my littlest one. It will last for only about another year of so.

Hello, got back from Boston on Monday and crazy week at work, so just updating workouts today including a 3hr run yesterday.  Traveling to South Korea on Monday for work, but the good news is that I'm signed up for the Seoul/Incheon International half marathon, should be an interesting experience.

On other news, while in Boston I got delivery of my new Garmin Fenix 3 and have only used it for 1 workout (yesterday's long run).  So far I really like it, especially the fact that I can use it as an every day watch (and the message notifications and daily activity tracker are also pretty cool).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

And another 5hr trail run/walk this morning. Hot, humid and then rain, lovely. I must say this trail running is a completely different animal, specially with full 2l hydration bag and Food on your back. Today the trail included around 1000m elevation gain, 16 creek crossings and muddy trail.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
