Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED reluctantly I got up at an ungodly 6am to do the 6 stage of the 8 Days of California / trainer road "race" so I could do stage 7 tonight. Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by dgconner154 Quick update on the Fenix 3. Unfortunately I'm still having problems with the run pace, which is probably the single most important feature for me. I've done some research and GPS inaccuracy is a pretty well-documented issue on the Garmin user forums and elsewhere. I haven't seen any issues with measured distances being inaccurate, but I've had problems with the pace going crazy any time I get under tree cover (which is often in my area). This might be a bananas to bulldozers comparison but I have a Garmin foot pod which pairs up through Ant+ with my Iphone. I run in fairly tall trees and have never seen my pace go off. I know the phone primarily uses GPS but will switch to the foot pod when it looses signal. The Fenix 3 does have the foot pod as an accessory so I would assume it would work in a similar way. You also gain the ability to measure stride and can use it on the treadmill. |

Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by sawyer1206 Tomorrow is the BIG day for a lot of my new friends. There are 5 people that I met in the last year who are doing IRONMAN Texas for the first time. I am volunteering for the Swim with jetski support and were working 2 shifts at Aid Station #6, 2:30P to 6:00PM and 6:00PM to 11:30PM. I am so looking forward to cheering everyone along and watching them become an IRONMAN. Below is a picture of the props that I made for our Aid Station, its a pirate theme station and I will post more pics tomorrow after the race. P that looks like a rock star aid station if I have ever seen one! I have never seen anything like that in any race I have done. Thank you for volunteering. |

I think you're probably right about the foot pod, but I was hoping to avoid using it mainly because I train and race in several different pairs of shoes and I don't want to be bothered switching it between pairs. Plus, in principal I don't think it's expecting too much from a $500 GPS watch to be able to give me accurate run pace without buying another $50 accessory. The irony is my $100 Forerunner 10 never has issues with pace! |

292 , Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Sorry I missed you this morning Mitch, I continue to have technical difficulties with Zwift. I don't think my trainer is properly supported even though they do list it as a supported unit. I have manual resistance settings and Zwift only supports resistance level 3, but when I use level 3 I can barely push my FTP over 150W or break 20mph. Need to contact their support people and get some advice. |

292 , Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Sad and scary news from my race this morning. A cyclist making a sharp turn on the course hit a pickup truck head-on and later died from his injuries. They haven't released all the details yet but I heard from a witness that he may have crossed over the cones marking the course into an open lane of oncoming traffic. My thoughts are with his family and friends. This is a poignant reminder to always pay attention and ride with care, even in race conditions. I can't stop thinking about this guy, and the fact that it could have been me or anyone out there. I've never really thought of triathlon as a high risk sport, but this was a wake up call. 353 Conroe, Texas | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Ironman Texas 2015 is now in the history book and it was a great day to volunteer, not so much for a race. The winds were terrible all day, steady 17 to 20mph with 30mph+ gusts. We were working the Aid station which was right on the lake shore and all I could think about was the folks out on the bike. The winds were out of the South and the bike course takes the riders due south for the last 50 miles of the bike leg. The bike leg definitely took its toll on the friends I had racing but all 4 finished. We were on the Aid station form 12:00PM to 11:30PM and it was an experience to say the least. The run course is a 3 loop course and it was strange to witness my friends come thru on the first leg looking good, smiling and high fiving only to come thru on the last loop looking like complete zombies. They all finished and can now call themselves IRONMAN and that's all that really matters at the end of the day. Oh and we won Best Aid Station for 2015 IMTX. It was cool to watch the athletes expressions when that saw us and the pirate props. There were even a few that stopped and had there picture taken with the pirate bike. I would like to say I am looking forward to volunteering again but I won't be available since I took the plunge and signed up for IMTX this morning. Only 364 days to go, better get serious with the training! Thank you, but no I'm not. Electrician by trade and woodworking is a hobby. Question for the king of the mill! @James- Do you find that more time spent on the treadmill helps improve your pace. I've grown tired of running in the dark on dim sidewalks at 5:00AM and decided about 6 weeks ago to do more treadmill runs. It really seems to be helping with my run rhythm and it seems to be improving my pace slowly. In the past I've really only used the treadmill for intervals and that's only because it wouldn't let me cheat. I'm starting to see improvements in the run and was wondering if there is anything I should be weary of when using the treadmill a lot? Adding this mornings 55' treadmill run. Dropped to prime days of working out for Ironman Texas but it was so worth it. Gotta play catch up now!
