Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Originally posted by sawyer1206 Question for the king of the mill! @James- Do you find that more time spent on the treadmill helps improve your pace. I've grown tired of running in the dark on dim sidewalks at 5:00 AM and decided about 6 weeks ago to do more treadmill runs. It really seems to be helping with my run rhythm and it seems to be improving my pace slowly. In the past I've really only used the treadmill for intervals and that's only because it wouldn't let me cheat. I'm starting to see improvements in the run and was wondering if there is anything I should be weary of when using the treadmill a lot? Ever though I do my share of complaining about the treadmill and I genuinely enjoy running outside, It is a great tool. I do think it helps my pace. On of my preferred workouts is forced pace increases. I start at a solid pace and then increase it by .1 every mile. When I reach my last mile I will increase pace .1 every .1 of a mile. the last .2 I will increase 1 mph per .1. The whole time I think at intervals go on Sufferlandrians go faster. I have no science to back this up, but I have read some of the same things a Mitch. There are a number of triathlon and running coaches who are using the treadmill as a tool. I don't blame you for hating the zero dark thirty runs. I give you and Mitch and anyone else who does the early morning runs a lot of credit. In Texas, it seems like your only choices are the treadmill or early morning running during the Summer. When I lived in Georgia I would melt like Frosty in the summer. Super cool weekend for you. That was an impressive aid station, plus getting the go ahead to run it next year. |

292 , Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED For the Zwifters in the group, is anyone else using virtual power via speed & cadence sensor as opposed to real power via power meter? I'm seeing a huge disparity between my virtual power on Zwift vs. Trainer Road, with Zwift being significantly lower. Like to the point where I have to mash on the pedals all-out to break 200w or 20mph. So far their tech support hasn't found a solution but I'm wondering if my trainer just isn't properly supported at this point. Zwift is no fun when you can't keep up with anyone! |

292 , Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED As promised, race report from last weekend's pool tri. The swim wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but overall I was a little disappointed in my performance. It was good to get my new bike out in a race for the first time and I came away with some positioning tweaks that should help for next race, so that's a positive. Despite working on my bike fitness this winter I still get the beginnings of calf cramps at the start of the run, which slowed me down a little in this race. Need to get closer to my open run pace off the bike. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/RaceLog/races-view-container.asp?... |

I am find that my speed and efforts in real time are closer on trainer road. |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED Well, I'm training.... some, I look like standing cow because of all my weight, getting on a diet when my wife gets on vacation (two more weeks of eating crap) and no choice but to get real. It's good to see you all stick together, and for those that don't know me I need to introduce myself properly. I'm Ernesto, from Argentina, husband, daddy, work for an oil company (midstream and downstream) in Dallas, TX. I love triathlons, but have been so busy with other aspects of life that I barely trained for the last twenty months. Needless to say, I will have to regain consistency and good habits. If there is something I learned from being semi retired from the sport is that all your gains go down the drain if you don't stay on a regular program. There is some "muscle memory" but it seems like my muscles smoked weed or something, they have forgotten how to go fast. I have finished a bunch of races, some gloriously, some with the tail between my legs; but I've tried to have fun in all of them. I will be toeing the line in IM Arizona along with Gabe in November, it will be a pleasure to see how he laps me around Papago Park. I witnessed his first Ironman right about three years ago, and he has become an endurance machine. Everyone that I know in this group has a wealth of knowledge and different backgrounds, that is awesomeness! |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success - CLOSED On the drainer again this morning. 75 minutes consisting of 3x12' @ ~90% FTP. For those riding virtual power...the nice thing with the introduction of so many power meters on the market is that prices are starting to come down and become more reasonable.
