Jackie: Congratulations - awesome results on a very tough course.

Adding a swim (1 hour) and run (25 min) from Monday. I was planning to do an FTP test on Tuesday and woke up feeling crappy so I took the day off instead.

Posting from the phone and mobile site is difficult. Had a 30 min run this morning and a 20 OWS tonight.

A quick catch up owes congrats to Jackie and Dave.

Mitch as for the sharks I came within 15feet of one of them on Ocean Isle.

I have more catching up to do, but wanted to say I', in for July with a 30 minute POOL swim.

Adding myself back in. That's it for June. Taking a week break before gearing back up. Did have a swim lesson today, but didn't take my Garmin.

Gabe and Dennis Good Job in June. I will start up July.
I worked downstate, so I got to swim 45 minutes plus 52:43 on the bike. I had another blown tire.

Great job everyone with the June Challenge and now ready for July!

I'm 9 days away from competing in Challenge Roth (full IM distance tri in Roth, Germany) and suffering from the effects of the taper :-)  I fly out tomorrow with the whole family to Rome and on Monday my two daughters (10 and 8 yrs) will be doing their First Holy Communion at the Papal Archbasillica of St. John the Lateran.  We are blessed to be able to have this unique opportunity and it will be a memorable event for the whole family.  We then travel to Germany for my race on Sunday July 12th.  As you can imagine, travelling with 3 kids (including a boy who will be turning 3 next week) is a logistical challenge (nightmare), so bringing my bike was out of the question.  I have not been able to find a tri bike to rent, but found someone to lend me a road bike, which seems to be a little smaller than my size, but will make it work.  So instead of stressing out, I'm going in with a positive attitude that this is a unique opportunity and I'm here because I want to be and will make sure to have a great time during my race.  We will see how it goes and I will keep you posted!

Gabe- I am very excited for you, and your daughters, what an incredible adventure for you and your family. The kids will travel well, I'm sure (that's why they invented Benadryl). What a wonderful experience for your daughter's, talk about a first Holy communion they will never forget.

Adding my first 3 days in July:
Wed 2:09 (1 hour bike, 29 min run off the bike, 40 min swim)
Thur 2:55 (1:45 bike, 1:10 swim)
Fri 1:01 run

The Thursday bike included my first FTP test in quite a while. I was happy with the results: 220 watts (3.65 watts/kg).

Gabe: love your attitude and I hope you are able to dial that bike in to get a reasonable fit for your race. Whenever I hear "Roth", I think of this picture:

Finally got my bike out on the road this morning. Was at one of our local metro parks with a 6 mile loop road by 6:00am. Pic below is bike setup with my behind the saddle bottle cages and bento box. Still need to setup the BTA water bottle.

Did 6 laps - 4 of the 6 were the fastest laps I've done at that park. I'm ascertaining a combination of lighter / more aero bike and fitness.

Last July 5th 2014 I did 7 laps. Fastest lap that day had NP of 211 and avg speed of 19.6 (IF .94). Today, fastest lap was NP 238 and avg speed 21.4 (IF .98 - but my FTP May be stale). I feel even better because I was in no way attempting to set a PR. Not sure about last year how hard I was going. IF's are somewhat similar. My PR today was the first lap of the morning and first time ever for me on an aero frame on the road. I know the first .5 mile or so I was soft pedaling as I was getting use to the steering. I will say the bike made it feel easier. My neck got a little strained but I think over time it will strengthen and ameliorate. Had on a more aero helmet as well (giro attack).

Sounds like a great ride Mitch.

Back from vacation yesterday, despite great intensions I only got in 1 run and 1 swim during the week. A lot of walking and just a nice break. Vacation is done though so I got out today for a 1km OWS, followed by a 5km trail run and then about 15km of mountain biking. 1:20 of Tri activity.

The wheels fell of or actually the chain fell off of my training on Friday 3.4 miles into the ride my chain broke. Town was insane for the holiday, so I would not dare go to the store to buy a new one until the tourists had vacated. The rest of the weekend was filled with holiday fun. 12:21 no point on Friday. 57:21 runch today, plus a 13:28 OWS today. The water isn't 50 deg yet and that was all I could tolerate.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
