Started September off with an FTP re-test on trainer road this morning. 10% improvement since my last test in May.

After my last foray into night riding I knew I would be doing it again and seeing that its getting dark earlier tonight was the night. One sticking point on my last ride was the lack of forward lighting. The white LED I run up front is bright enough that cars will easily see me but not enough to really see any distance. This reminded me of the old BLT halogen lights I had years ago. They were well over $200 back in the day and pretty bright so I dusted them off, plugged in the water bottle battery and set to charge them. I was a little surprised that the battery did in fact charge and 1 of the lights did work. It was the "low" 10W light and not the 15W high but it was better than nothing.

So I went for a night ride tonight on the mountain bike, on the trails. It was really exciting as I do know the trails but its still more than just a little unnerving to round corners over choppy roots with limited sight as to whats out of range of the lights. By all accounts it was a slow ride but it certainly didnt feel that way.

I have a Timex Global Trainer watch and I have never been happy with it. Finally, it died this Spring at the same time the watch band literally fell to pieces. I debated on what to do. Timex said I could send it in and they would replace it for $70.00 or sent me the GPS run trainer for $125.00. I also looked at buying something else. Finally I gave up and just sent it into Timex, told them my disappointment in the produce, in fact I may have said something along the line of "please replace it, so I can enjoy 3 more years of disappointment in your product." Today they send me a new watch and charged me $20.00 for shipping. The product may not have been great ( probably why Timex stopped making them) but I'm happy with the company.

Those of you who are friends with Dennis on FB, he posted the video of his bike crash. It doesn't seem like much from the go pro he had mounted on his bike, but it appears to have ended his season.

Decided to follow up yesterday's FTP test with the 30sec/2min/5min power test on TrainerRoad...I think its worse than the 20min FTP test!

Bummer to hear about Dennis, I hope his recovery is speedy.

Ran some errands with the bike tonight- 46km in 1:46. One of my tasks was to pick up a craigslist find. while I was there he asked if I needed some bike lights. Ended up giving him $10 for a helmet mount BLT 15W halogen light. I works great and was nice and bright for the ride home. It sure gets dark fast and early now!

It could very well be the end of the season for me. My Dr. told me that a November 1 70.3 will be iffy! My plans now are to rest and see how I feel in a few weeks. If I have mobility I may try to keep some sort of run fitness on the elliptical and bike fitness on the recumbent bike at the gym. I think we're both being over optimistic but I can't just quit!

The Damage from Saturdays ride includes a NASTY AC Separation and a broken left wrist.

Hola team, missing workouts again, but we have been busy in Guatemala working to remove a corrupt President and team out of office, which fortunately we achieved yesterday, peacefully and with some lights of hope for the future!  http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/03/guatemala-celebrates-resignation-president-facing-criminal-charges?CMP=twt_gu

Dennis, sorry to hear about your accident and hope that you recover well!

Hi everyone. I am on my iPad and carriage returns don't work. I finished up August with 23 days and 54:43. As of today (sat), I have 5 days and 4:08 for the month of September. I am currently on Sado island and will be doing a full distance triathlon tomorrow. Forecast says I am going to get wet. Dennis: bummer!!! Sorry to hear about your crash. Mitch: right call on that coach. He is clearly a jerk.

That's correct! I didn't plan on racing today, because I have my HIM next Saturday. But the friend who tagged me, (my college room mate) was signed up by his son on Wednesday and he called me in a panic asking what do I need to know and what should I do now. I gave him some wing and a prayer advice, hooked him up with the Tri store in Birmingham by his house. Then a few hours later I got a text from the same son, asking me to do it with them. We didn't have anything going on today (somehow no company on a Holiday weekend, that has happened never), so up at 4:00 for the ride over to Boyne, won my age group, came in 10th overall, a quick ice cream, hugs goodbye and back home. I took if as a fine tuning training day, basically what I had planned for tomorrow. I will do race report and update scorecard tomorrow.

Short story: my time was about 13:13-13:15 which is 30+ minutes faster than last year. About 20 minutes gain came on the bike and about 10 on the run. The rain started about 100km into the bike and continued all the way through the run. The temperature was 19C (67 F) for the last half of my run - just a little too cool with the rain and light wind. I feel sorry for the folks who were out on the course until the cutoff time (9:30 pm - 15.5 hours from the start). More in a couple of days when I get some official results and analyze my data at home.

My race report is up. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Here's what happened on the swim. I was hanging onto the back of the swim group when we made the turn. I found myself in the middle of the group and though I was really pouring it o. Then I realized the swim caps were the wrong color and they were swimming the opposite direction. I pulled up and realized I over turned and was spotting the wrong buoy. I got back on course, but lost a lot of time.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
