Regular 309 Euless, Texas | Subject: 2014 Goals Even though 2014 isn't quite over yet, I'm a little disappointed that I missed my cycling mileage goal. My goal was to do 1,500 miles, and I'm only at 1,290.15 miles. And having just had surgery I won't be able to meet my goal on the bike. I did have a realization this year about my cycling though. I put in almost no miles in the last 3 months of the year because I was focused on training for a half marathon and my off season which is lifting weights. So that means I need to put in more miles January 2015-September 2015 if I am to strive for this same goal next year. On the flip side, my running mileage goal was 350 miles and I have surpassed that with a total of 430.62 miles thus far. I can still run and will be able to get in probably another 20 miles through the end of the year. How have the rest of y'all done? |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I have found that the easiest way to hit mileage goals is consistentcy. Even if I need a break I try to at least do a little to avoid big gaps in my monthly totals. Easier said than done as sometimes other goals become more important at the time. I'm just a few miles from my run goal of 1,500 miles and should hit it this evening. It has been a great run focus year, and at 53, I've PR'd my over 40 times for 5k, 10k, HM, and marathon. I had to cut back on my bike miles goal of 2,500 with only hitting about 2,100 but running was my focus and something had to give as I had a few periods of pretty severe fatigue. Swimming suffered the most as I only hit about 70% of my annual goal. I'm really looking forward to 2015 with goals of 1500 run, 2500 bike, and 200k swim.

Veteran 1016 Deep South, Georgia | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I hit my bike goal of 2000 miles, and my run goal of 600. Came up a little short on my swim goal of 250k yards. Actually a lot short. |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals started off well this year... but my myriad of issues since then has pretty well sidelined me. Going to come up a little short in everything but swimming. Oh well, 2015 starts soon |

Member 325 Groningen, Netherlands | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I am about an hour's ride away from reaching 10.000km (~6200 miles) on the bike for the year. My goal was around 8500 but with running injuries at the start of the year stalling any progress I just focused on riding and thus it was easy to rack up the miles. Running will stand at around 900km with the bulk coming in the last 4 months. For next year I am looking at around 2000km running, 12000km biking. Hard to put a number on swimming, but I hope to do at least 250.000 meters (not a whole lot for swimmers I imagine). |

Champion 7547 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals Finished B2B in 12:20, so that was good. Did so on relatively minimal training (roughly 180,000 yards swimming, 1500 miles cycling, and 500 miles running), so that part is not so good. |

1502 Katy, Texas | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals Since I just started in May, I didn't have any pre-set goals but this post inspired me to go look at my 2014 numbers. Running I did throughout the whole year, but biking and swimming are from May until last week: Biking: 2,525 miles Running: 1,122 miles Swimming: 81.79 miles So maybe 5,000 bike, 1,200 run and 200 swim for next year? |

Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I set some pretty lofty goals in 2014, then realized I had to keep family time high. Well I managed to keep the family happy and still reach decent numbers.Run: 1350 Miles (currently at 1112)Run 5K under 21:00 (PR of 20:57)Bike: 4000 Miles (currently at 2760)Run Half Marathon Under 1:44 (PR of 1:43:56 in a race I cruised through)Swim: 200,000yds, (currently at 146,000 with 1/2 of that coming in the last 3 months)Finish Half Ironman under 5:45 ( finished in 6:09 when I realized too late that it was all about nutrition) |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I track all my training by time, not distance, since I'm too lazy to use the Garmin most of the time, and I do a lot of trainer rides. I'm one run away (tomorrow AM) from making my running goal of 200 hours. (At my normal speed, that's about 2400 km of running, about 1488 miles.) About 18 hours away from my biking goal, but I'm spending most of the rest of the year on a bike tour, biking probably 4-6 hours a day, so hopefully I will get there. Already met and exceeded my goals for swimming (100 hours) and strength (50 hours). It's really been a push to get to 200 hours of running. I normally take some time off running, or at least do very little, at year's end, but am trying to wrap it up before bike tour starts on Monday. Starting to get some overuse niggles so really looking forward to a few weeks off any kind of serious running! As for competitive goals.....sigh. It hasn't been the best year due to badly timed illness and injury. I've only raced four times, due to lots of work commitments and coursework conflicting with races. (And one was a swim meet that turned out to be canceled, so I could have raced! Grrr...) I did accomplish my goal of improving a lot on the bike in my first tri (7+ minutes faster than last year, over 62 km), but then had mediocre rides on the other two races (both Olys). I had bronchitis for the first tri and had a horrid run, then struggled with heat on the second and injury on the third, with mediocre runs. I did have strong swims in two out of the three tris (bruised ribs for the other one and it affected my swim). Then had a truly sucky half marathon a few weeks back. Not sure what happened--I paced sensibly but was nauseous from 5 km on. Either heat, something I ate, stomach bug, or some horrid combo. I guess the positive side is I must have a strong base in everything now! Hope I can put it together in at least a few races next year--HIM planned for May, plus a sprint and a couple of Olys and an aquathlon in 2015. |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals Yes, 200 hours, DONE! (Kept expecting to get hit by a meteor or trip over a brick or something in the final minutes. If you knew my history of running and stupid injuries you would understand why.) I'm at 200h13m. Might go for 201 tomorrow but calling it quits after that unless an irresistable run venue presents itself while I'm bike touring in Sri Lanka. Only the bike goal left now. Best of luck, everyone! |

309 | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I made my 2014 goal by getting off the couch and completing my first tri 6 weeks after my 57th birthday I really enjoyed the journey as the training was a challenge. At the start of the year I could swim 15 metres and run 50 metres. My first race was an "enticer" : 150m swim/ 7km bike ride/ 1500m run. While they're not big numbers in comparison to some events I can now swim 10 times further and run 30 times further than I could at the start of the year. Also lost a lot of weight and feel a lot better for it. |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals Beginning of 2014 I had some super ambitious goals but...... In January I ran my first 50k and finished 2nd overall female, but a few days later I was on an operating room table having emergency surgery, apparently I had gotten too dehydrated during the race and ruptured my small intestine, and for days my intestines were leaking into my body cavity, causing all sorts of infections. Recovery went well, but still a setback In September, we had to move (active duty army) from Coastal Georgia to Northeast Kansas with only 11 weeks notice. I was registered for Augusta 70.3 but with the big move wasn't able to do the race, it was to be my A race and my 7th half ironman Looking forward to a better 2015, registered for Ironman Louisville, will be Ironman #3 for me! |

701 | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals Complete an Olympic length - check Stay under 200 lbs (that was my weight loss goal 3 years ago...lose 100+, get down to 190 stay under 200)-check Although there's still time left and plenty of opportunity to blow that one. However, I did make it past my iowa farm raised, mother-in-law's Thanksgiving. If I can do that I can make it through Christmas and new year's. OMG you have never ever had stuffing like she can make it. It does not come from a box. There is a lot of butter and sausage involved. It's insanely unhealthy and impossible to limit to o u r self on. Oh so good. |

Regular 585 Pueblo, Colorado | Subject: RE: 2014 Goals I always shoot to do more distance than the previous year. Not really my main focus throughout the year, but kind of a secondary goal. Here's how it went for me: Swim: 120,000 yds: About 45,000 more than last year (still a few swim sessions to go, including possibly a 4 miler for the tri club challenge) Bike: 1800- about 150 miles more than last year (a lot of trainer time these days so this may bump up another 100 or so by year's end) Run: 495 miles- about 70 miles less than last year (lin 2013 I did an ultra so I don't feel too bad about missing this one). By January 1st, I should only be about 40 miles short. For 2015, I'll be doing my first IM (Boulder) so I'm sure my numbers will look a bit different! Happy New Year everybody! |
