Good Morning,

I am new to triathlons so recently joined this site. I've never owned a road bike but I mountain bike quite a bit. I'm planning my first triathlon sprint in March. I found this bike which seems to fit my measurements but I'll go try it out. The seller isn't sure of the year or model. The listing states that it is likely a 2005 or 2007 P2. I've been researching extensively online and can't seem to confirm the year or model. I was hoping the experts on here could help.. It has ultegra components and appears in good shape. Any way to confirm the year and model? Any idea of current market value?

You can try asking the seller for the serial number (usually on the underside of the bottom bracket, but could be in the inside of the left dropout or the side of the seat tube near the bottom bracket).  Some Cervelo serial numbers follow this scheme... SN followed by model name, followed by the 2 digit year followed by a letter indicating the month it was built. So SNP207C would be a P2 built in March 2007. A is January, B is February, etc.... L is December.  There will be more numnbers following, but that would tell you what you need to know.  Note that the month & year are the manufacturing date and may not necessarily be the model year.  If the format is different, you could try checking with Cervelo.  From the pic, I am guessing that is a Dual.

Thanks Johnny. I was thinking the same thing about it being a dual after looking at pictures on EBay and on Cervelo's website. Your post was extremely helpful!

While I've only registered recently, I've been reading threads for some time and this is a great group of very knowledgable people. You all have helped me in several decisions and planning training so far.

Thanks again!

Just to add, the reason I assume it is a Dual is that it does not appear to have a rear wheel 'cutout' on the seat tube.  I think that that all P2's (even the old P2K) have some kind of cut out there.  When the Dual moved to the P1, it got the cutout.

Google 2006 Cervelo Dual and I think you'll see a match.

After looking at bike blue book and googling the 2005-2007 duals, I'm positive you all are right. Thanks so much for the help on this! I read the reviews for the bike on a few different websites and they are all very positive. Seems like a good beginner bike with used ones around the $500 mark. Aluminum frame with carbon forks and good components. Hopefully it is in great shape in person. Thanks again everyone!

For those that helped me out, just wanted to give a final update. Test rode the bike this morning and it felt good. The shifting was smooth and it was in great condition. The bike is a 2005 Dual Ultegra with Bontrager 6000 series 622X14 wheels, Look pedals, Gossamer Crank, Vredestein fortezza se tires, cervelo seat, and dual water bottle holder/CO2 holder behind the seat and a small bag. It also has one main water bottle holder on the frame. No cracks and just some small scratches in a few places. Seems like a good deal for just under $500 and hopefully will last a long time for a beginner bike.

I took it to REI and they are going to do a tune-up, replace the cables and the brake pads. Hopefully will get it out for training by next weekend.

Thanks again for all the help!

Welcome to the Dual family. I race a 2004. Bike gives a rough ride compared to my S2 but boy is it fast.

BikeSport Michigan gave good detailed reviews when they they still in operation. Lucky to still have the website up and running.
